Trusty xbox flashing red and green fix?

Post by xboxprince »

I bought a trusty 1.4ghz Xbox 128mb early this year and it was working fine but I didn't have a patch so the gampley was really fast, so I put it away for a few months and I decided to play around with it today and I get this flashing red and green light and no video or audio. Also I 've only used this console three or four times since its purchase and I did do some trouble shooting like checking to see if it was the power supply( it wasn't) I added a modchip to it just incase there was a problem with the bios still didn't work. I'm not working right cause I only work during the summer so Im pretty low on bills and I just don't have the finances to replace it, but I have the skill to repair it so now I'm here for the solution.

Ps. thank you :)

Hmm. FRAG.

Not FRAOrange?

You should explain what happens when you power on. Instantly FRAG, or does it power cycle at all before going FRAG?

DVD in the tray? Power by eject? Play with it and try to find a different result.

Likely it's something related to CPU/RAM. You should check connections for RAM are all intact. RAM issues usually give FRAO though. If you have the balls, dig around the CPU/adapter area for clues.

Also i checked the ram chips and they seemed okay and clean (I'll check them again though), but didn't check the CPU though.

And thanks a million too :)

Is your fan going full speed?

It probably doesn't make a difference anyway...

Unfortunately it seems that you will have to check over the board in detail. I am no PCB repair specialist.

You can try looking to see if everything is aligned around the CPU. Perhaps things warped around that area and a reflow is necessary.

Best of luck with it. Hopefully somebody else advises a proper approach to identify the precise problem.

Maybe Trusty himself can assist you. Certainly he's had to succeed with fixing a FRAG or two.

the cpu is held in via the heat sink and as it is held by 2 bolts it can easily become dislodged on one side.

I have had it happen to mine once or twice.
