Hi,
I have a softmoded xbox. I need the key combination to go to alternative boot screen during xbox startup. Does this exist.
While upgrading my xbox via FTP i deleted the XBMC directory. It deleted most of the files in the directory but not the directory itself. In any case i just decided to copy the new XMBC installation over the existing XMBC directory. My mistake is that i ended up copying the new installations inside the existing XMBC directory. After the copy was done i lost contact with the FTP server. Consequence: When starting the xbox i get a black screen and can't FTP to the xbox.
A few years ago i remember being able to stop the startup with some kind of key combination on the controller during the startup and going to some preliminary boot screen, while in this screen i could FTP to the box. But I'm not sure about this and for sure dont remember the key combination and also can't find this info on any forum.
Can someone help me?
Thank you,
Help: deleted XBMC directory
Re: Help: deleted XBMC directory
If all you've done is delete xbmc it should be simple to sort out. Download Hexen (sorry, I don't have a link but there should be references all over the place to it), burn it to a disc, cold-boot the xbox with the Hexen disc in and you'll have FTP access. Stick your new xbmc build where the old one was and away you go.
To avoid the same problem in the future you can set up a dual boot so starting the xbox with the eject button goes to unleashx or another dash.

Hi,
Thank you for the support.
I ended up fixing the issue yesterday with the Hexen boot up disk as suggested here.
Indeed the Error recovery mode is what i was looking for. Will save it for future reference. Was looking in google and forums for key combination or button combo but none triggered this post: my shame should have digged a bit more and paid more attention to existing postings.
