Xbox general help - Coinops, menus, games
Hello dear all,
I've recently bought a modded XBOX model, with a 1TB HDD and coinops 6R10 installed.
I'm experiencing several problems, and unfortunately with all the online information I've gathered (due to the many ways od modding it), I'm getting nowhere with answers.
I hope that, instead of mocking me and telling me to use Google, you can actually provide some insight to the several issues I've been experiencing.
1 - I have started to download some games in ISO format (and ripping some of mine to the HDD) and not all of them work when they are transfered to the HDD. Some have displaced lines (maybe NTSC), while others just don't work. I've tried erasing their folders via ftp, but they don't erase...
2 - Coinops just doesn't boot anymore...I haven't touched it via ftp, nor via system. When I click on it, instead of booting, it just reboots XBMC.
3 - I'm having major problems booting the system up. Sometimes it goes into na EvoX screen followed by the XBMC screen/menus. Other times it just boots the XBOX menu. I believe clicking the white/black buttons simultaneously and then pressing on makes it boot on XBMX.
Also, when I "enter" a game (via G:) or via Coinops (when it was working), I can't exit to the root menu...I must turn the console Off via on/off button - is it supposed to work like that?
Please help me out, someone!

Re: Xbox general help - Coinops, menus, games
Posting duplicate posts will not get your answer faster. First off, no one here deals with coinops, that is reserved for another forum. Coinops doesn't play nice with the open source rules that we all love here.
Secondly, the booting issue sounds like your loader path is mucked up. You should let us know if it is hardmodded, softmodded, or TSOP. This would help greatly in giving you an answer.
Third, your games should be pulled out of their ISO format, and given their standard file structure. I cannot remember the name of the program that is specific for this, and hopefully someone else can give that info. They work better this way.

Thanks for replying. I had no intentions of doubling the post, but after I made the other, this section seemed more appropriate.
I use coinops mostly for stuff that is unavailable to the home market (Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder i.e.). I'm a collector and have over 10 systems, and more than 300 original games for sure.
I bought the console online, as I thought the whole softmodding thing was beyond my tech reach.
As far as I know it's softmodded, not hard. I don't know what TSOP means.
I've pulled the games from ISO form, but some just don't play - probably people thinking they're funny or something.

Re: Xbox general help - Coinops, menus, games
Qwix is the program's name to extract ISO's. Stupid shoddy memory. Try extracting those ISO's that don't work on your PC before you FTP them. Could be your whole issue resolved.
You will have to ask the folks who deal with the Coinops (they have their own forums) about this issue.
Softmodding is simple really, and doesn't take any effort. But it sounds like your boot path is mucked up still.

Bummer. Well, you have 2 options then. Start from scratch and redo your softmod and install your stuff again, or hope like hell that someone comes along that really knows coinops.
Your booting issue is an easy fix though. Get a Slayer's 2.98 disc and set your default boot to XBMC. Simple.

I can't start from scratch...I dunno what I'm doing, thus the asking for help.
Can you develop the Slayer 2.98 theory, please? For someone who has no idea what you're talking about.

Re: Xbox general help - Coinops, menus, games
Download the disc (check my signature for a link inside my chimp guide), burn to disc. Go through the options and find where to boot to xbmc. Pretty simple. I am not home, so I cannot give further advice. Softmodding is painfully easy. I use the Splinter Cell exploit myself (not being a dick, but you should google that to make things easier and with more clarity).
Or hell, you could just wait for Heimdall to show up in here and ask him how to clean up the softmod with Hexen. May even be easier.
With us though, you're probably screwed about Coinops.

I just burned the disc. I cliked to boot on xbmc on the large hdd. Re-booted it...bam, back to the original xbox menu.
I cliked to boot on xbmc on the small hdd. Re-booted it...bam, back to the original xbox menu.
So, it didn't work! Thanks anyway.

Re: Xbox general help - Coinops, menus, games
Hey, anyone out there with any advice?
Also, what is the limit of games you can backup into the HDD?
Is it HDD related or not really? My XBOX seems to be going nuts...

Re: Xbox general help - Coinops, menus, games
To properly get you going we really do need to know how the xbox is modded. If we dont know how's it modded there is no way to properly guide you. There are ways to find out how it's been modded by looking at folder structure, opening up the xbox and seeing if there is a mod-chip installed or perhaps even seeing if there are joints on the motherboard that have been bridged with solder indicating it's been TSOP modded (just like a chip). Take some pictures of the xbox with it opened up, alot of folks here on the forums will help you for sure but we just need alittle info to help you out correctly. The HDD size will limit how many xbox games you can put on it (back up). I'd say xbox games can vary from 700mb's to over 6GB's depending on the game so you can fit a ton on a 1TB drive. As i re-read your first post it almost does sound like the xbox has a chip installed. Get into XBMC if possible and look at the system info page, it should list your "operating system" in there, should be a number similar to 5038 or 5035 or 4981. See what that is and report back. Also look for any light (blue or blinking red) on the side of the xbox, this could indicate a mod-chip is present.
Using QWIX (PC Program) with Avalaunch (Dashboard for XBOX) is a huge help when transferring ISO images to the XBOX. Qwix will break down the ISO and FTP it to the XBOX(while the XBOX is running Avalaunch) very quickly and properly. It's crazy fast and easy and you dont have to burn the ISO images to a disc and copy them that way. Avalaunch is probably already on the XBOX but if it's not it is very easy to get a hold of (that's where google comes into play, also with Quix).
True that CoinOp's is frowned upon and not talked about here much but regardless of that, this community is strong and always willing to help out. Let us know what you find on the xbox. Other softmod guys can probably chime in to help identify if it's a softmod but I hardly use those and cant help much there.
Cheers,
Nextel
P.S. welcome to the forums sir.

Re: Xbox general help - Coinops, menus, games
Hi.
Thanks a lot for your willingness to help.
I couln't find an OS page for the XBMC settings, but I've taken pics of the General Settings, LCD, Apps it has installed. I also entered there and took pics of the RAM check and Bios.
No lights appear on the sides, so I don't think it's a hardmod.
The front lights of the XBOX themselves are either green (when entering on the MS original thingy) or Orange/green when entering on XBMC mode.
I have been using Filezilla to transfer files. However, I've noticed some folders are impossible to erase, either from games I've put in there and also from Coinops (which I'm trying to erase). How do I erase folders on this thing? It's driving me nuts. It should be very Windows-like. I erase them...they stay there...

Re: Xbox general help - Coinops, menus, games
In XBMC click down on the right thumbstick and choose "system info" and that will get you where you need go.
Some files you flatout DO NOT want to erase. Especially on softmods.

Shot you a PM, check you inbox. I meant to click the thumbstick inward or down into the controller, you'll hear a click. Same as ducking or zooming in on Halo games.

In Confluence / Confluence Lite the right thumb does not bring the power menu with the system info option.
To access the System info menu on the old Confluence skin:
On the home screen highlight "System" > Press right and select "System info"
