cant ftp

Post by creon78 »

ive modded the xbox ive now got unleash x running on it, soon im gonna be changing to xbmc.
anyway for some reason i cant ftp from my desktop so that i can make a backup of the eeprom and pass some emus over, ive matched the ip address dns and subnet.

ive tried to ping with command prompt and it comes back timed out,for some strange reason it wont ping to my laptop either even though its connected to wi-fi and shows up on the network.

the xbox is connected to the network but doesnt show up, connected to router via powerline adapters. ive also tried with firewall off. could it be my avast anti virus? anything else i can do to check and change to get it working?

the xbox ip address is static and is the usual 192.168.0.2

ive done everything as described in previous tutorials but i cant get the xbox to talk to the desktop. im going to be using filezilla once i get a connection through command prompt.

*edit* so ive changed from static ip to dhcp and it talks!

That's not a good idea because the router expects to be able to give that IP out via DHCP, so you could end up with two devices on the network with the same IP. Static IPs should only be assigned outside of the DHCP range.

In any event, I'm not a fan of static IPs on a DHCP network. It's much better to use static DHCP if your router supports it. With static DHCP, the connected device (in this case, the Xbox) will still receive an IP via DHCP but the router will always assign the same IP based on the MAC address.

very true, I have everything on my networks on static purely for the reason you mention as i like to have a set i.p for each machine, i was just saying that it's an easy way to get an working network config.
