CoinOps 4 not working on a 320GB Soft Modded Xbox

Post by an1dr2ew3 »

Hi Guys,

Yesterday I softmodded a friends Xbox and added a 320GB IDE HDD with Heimdalls engineering disk. I spent the next few hours letting my FTP programme add CoinOps4; however when I loaded CoinOps4 the menu loads fine but when I select a game (any game) the Xbox freezes and I have to manually switch it off and back on again. Does anyone have any idea on what might be causing the problem?

A bit of background to help you guys, The partition of the 320GB HDD has been set to all of it in F, has this maybe caused the problem?

I have deleted the arcade data in both the T data and U data file and tried reloading it still no joy?

I have done quite a few of these before, normally on 160GB HDDs and the odd 250GB, this is the first 320GB HDD I have done but it has really stumped me!

Any help would be greatly appreciated - Andrew

Did you format it to 32k cluster size first? Unfortunately if you didn't you'll lose everything on the F drive, just use xbpartitioner to format in 32k clusters and all should be good. As it's over 250Gb it means you have to use 32k clusters, anything over 500gb needs 64k cluster size.

Thank you Lee, I knew you would be able to point me in the right direction :)

I did think of emailing you but didn’t want to monopolise your time!

N.B. Are you planning on getting CoinOps 5 when it is released?

Feel free to email me whenever you like mate. Yeah as soon as it's released I'll be getting it (somehow), I actually have a few plans for making some xbox arcade units next year and would love to put Coinops5 in them, was going to make a start on them this year but ended up having too much real life stuff going on (and other geeky projects :) )

Its a coinops problem i believe, i have CO3 working happily on a 200gig hdd in a slim for about 6 months but decided to upgrade to CO4 but have a similar problem.
When it starts it goes thru the game scanning a few times then finally gets to the splash screen and then freezes, i went from from CO3 sunset to CO4 R4, CO4 R9 and then overwrote with CO4 Fantastic .
Sent from my android coz apple is for pie.

Thanks bigkidoz, I’m hoping its the partition issue as I seem to be able to get a bit further than you as CoinOps loads up and I can scroll through all the games it just stops/freezes when ever I select one.

I have a similar problem with CoinOps 4, although mine doesn`t freeze. If I select a game the screen goes blank for a second or two and then back to the selection screen? The only way I can get a game to play is to use the random play button, so I can't play the games I want to play??

Hi Guys,

I spent all last night loading CoinOps and formatting and re formatting the HDD still no joy?!?!? This is really bizarre as I have loaded the same version of CoinOps 4 on to at least 10 other consoles for friends and family.

I re-partitioned the HDD so that it was in 32 clusters (ithink it might have been set up that way to begin with), same result! I then split the HDD into 2 partitions F/G 142GB each, same result!

The Xbox works fine all apart from CoinOps I am going to have to put it down to either my copy of CoinOps getting corrupted or the HDD is on its way out. It is a bit strange that both Nidge and bigkidoz are having problems too tho.

CoinOps loads I can see the games, the videos are playing, I can scroll through the list of games just selecting a game the Xbox freezes/crashes. Arcade data in with TData & UData has been deleted on both occasions, it’s just really annoying to load over 50GB plus worth of data for it not to work, arghhhhh!!!

Any other advice would be appreciated - Andrew

Yep I'm quite surprised, 3 of us!

I have absolutely no idea about CoinOps, it sounds like fun and I've vowed to give it a try when 5 comes out, but as yet I've not tried it.
I'm hoping we'll be able to do the 'pass a hard drive around thing' I mentioned in another thread when CoinOps 5 comes out, since my connection is rurally slow.

Only thing I can think of is try another hard drive, but that might not be practicable.

Thanks for the reply Asbo,

The passing on of the HDD is a very good idea same as yourself living in Norfolk I will be lucky to get 2.0MB. Whufclee kindly helped me out with CoinOps4 so I'm hoping he might do the same with CoinOps5 for some more beer money :) If it helps I am more than happy to wipe this 320HDD run it through HDTune (just to double check for errors) and use it as the official XBMC4XBOX CoinOps5 HDD.

CoinOps5 looks as if it’s pretty close to release:

Maybe we could start a post to generate interest, names geographical locations to work out the best order.

yeah that sounds good. Start a thread!

I've got a couple of drives I'd be willing to have passed around. Maybe they can be backups as they're sure to get bumped around in the post.

I`m on Virgin Media cable, so my connection is fairly quick, up to 30mb ;)

BTW my Xbox is chipped, so it`s not a fault that only affects softmods?

I saw more tractors when I lived in Lincolnshire to be honest :D So I guess that make me a "YELLOW BELLY"....lol
A yellowbelly (or yeller belly) is a person from Lincolnshire, England. The origin of this nickname is disputed, and many explanations have been offered.

I replied to Andrews email, yes I'll be happy to copy it and send it on if someone can get a hdd to me. As I have a load of the extra packs I should be able to start the torrent at a decent percentage so hopefully it won't take too long to download and I'll be seeding for as long as possible - I'm on ~16mbps connection. If someone could let me know when it's released that will be great as life is still a bit hectic (although getting better as each day passes) so I've not really been keeping up with what's going on in the geek world.
