2 xbox's share media

Post by infinity8x3 »

I was wondering if 2 xbox's hooked together with say a crossover cable could share media with each other. Like could i add the other xbox as a source and view/interact with the files on the other xbox?

I believe it's possible to add an ftp server as a source (I'm not around an Xbox to verify this), so assuming I'm correct, then yes, this should be possible.

Pretty sure you should be able to add it as a source, you'd probably be best to set the xboxes with statiic IPs though. When multipiple xboxes are connected to your network you can view content via filemanager so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do this. Saying that though I'm fairly sure someone on the old forum mentioned they aren't great at doing this task, sorry can't remember the exact details but presumably the xbox resources aren't really ideal for it, however if you don't have a NAS or some sort of PC on the network it might be worth trying.

I have previously been able to connect 2 consoles together using a standard patch cable to ftp files between them but recent tries havent worked, if they are on the same network and you select yes to auto discover then you will get a pop up message asking if you wish to connect. Then they will appear in file manager as a source .

The above approach (System>Settings>Network>Auto-detection) is the simplest way to share contents between 2 or more Xbox's. I even stream files via wireless LAN (YMMV depending on bandwidth/signal quality, etc). Of course, you can also manually Add video source>Browse>Add network location>Protocol>FTP server (fill out the relevant details) or share via uPnP but why go through all the hassles when you can use auto-discovery.
