it should automatically play almost any format. you might want to play avis in MPlayer though. you can do this by pressing white button on highlighted video and choosing Play using.
You should pay particular attention to the section titled "Xbox supported video formats and resolutions" because it'll let you know what kind of limits you're up against.

Current performance should be better than this table says, certainly with h264 I have played back higher resolutions, but of courwse it can depend on bitrate.

So the movies that would be on my HDD, must be .avi format? Then the movie info downloads automatically, sorry for my ignorance and my bad English... The movies is the other step to my knowledge on XBMC, later i will learn about the TV series on the XBMC
No, xbmc4xbox can play almost any format. If in doubt just throw the movies on the xbox and see if it will play. Most of the time it does right out of the box. so far i have played .mkv .avi .mp4 .vob no problem. There really isn't many other standards in use.
One of the beautiful things about xbmc4xbox is you don't have to convert file formats.
^ How about some of those high quality FLV files, they play nice too OP I wouldn't recommend converting to FLV btw, my movies are mostly AVI and come in around 700MB - I'm happy with that but if you want HD then I'm sure some of the guys can point you to the correct tutorial (there's one on here somewhere).
