Problems updating

One of my friends recently gave me his old chipmodded original Xbox. Ive been fixing a few hardware problems, and it seems like its working perfectly. But I do have problems updating XBMC, as I would like something newer than version 1.1

Firstly I put it in the F:/apps folder to see that it worked correctly, and it worked without a problem.
After that, I booted into that version, uploaded it to the E: drive, renamed the old dash, and this one to XBMC-DASH which the old one were called. But when I boot it up, it says something like "Fatal Error. No suitable skin version found. We require at least (x)". After that I changed the names back, and it worked with version 1.1 again.

So my question is, how do I make this work, without inserting some disc? Do I need to delete, or replace some files?
