Some interesting modding techniques among others:
1.Running an xbox without a DVDROM drive without chip or tsop flash.
2. Xbox Gamepad Encoder.

it looks like he is just leaving in the dvd controller from the quote from his blog.I will show you how to open up the DVDROM drive and remove the circuit board (which controls the IDE interface) so that this PCB alone can be connected to your xbox motherboard.

Re: XBox powered arcade cabinet
I find it interesting that he would resort to using a softmod and leaving the DVD PCB connected when it would seem that he has the soldering skills necessary to flash the TSOP (unless it's a 1.6/1.6b) based on this quote.
The xbox did not come with a video cable but fortunately I have plenty of them lying around. The reason it was missing became apparent when I got home and plugged it in...the video output was not working. After some investigation, I identified a problem on the motherboard and swapped it out with parts from another broken xbox.
