So I got a v1.6 Xbox. The console it self seems like in mint condition it has low miles if you know what I mean. I know for a fact it sat in the closet for about 9 years not ever being used. I want to use a softmod on it the splinter cell method that I've seen on Youtube. Why am I wanting to upgrade the HDD well the reason is that the Xbox I have is 11 years old. Everything works perfect now but I've read many times that it's not if the HDD will break, it's when and it will eventually. I was thinking of just going ahead replace the HDD now with a brand new one so I know at least I don't have to worry about it for a long time and maybe by the time it does break we might have a emulator that will run the games great. Doing the softmod looks simply and straight forward but replacing the HDD does not I actually don't really feel like replacing it but seeing how I just got the Xbox and I've not done anything to it yet so maybe I should get it out of the way now, while I can still get suitable HDD's for it. By the way if your wondering I'm not putting any emulators on it just Xbox games.
Are the reasons I want to upgrade the HDD dumb ? If I don't plan on FTP games to the HDD would it be dumb to replace it when it's not broken yet ?
I have these following questions if you don't mind pretty please.
Does playing backups cause more wear and tear then playing the original disc ? Also assuming using good media and burning at low speed.
Also from what I read but getting conflicting info games that are DVD9 may or may not work with a softmod ? I know unnecessary files can be removed from the game to be able to fit on a DVD5 but I don't want to fuss with that stuff.
By the way is this DVD media really great to use for backups:

Also is imgBURN the recommended program to burn the backups ?
Also is it true that it's best to burn at a speed of half of what the disc is rated at ? So the discs I'm looking at are 16x would it be optimal to burn at 8x then ? I'm saying this because I've read it's not good to force a low burn speed on media sometimes.
Thanks a lot

Big HDD, copy all your games onto the hard drive and save the part that does fail on Xboxes, the DVDrive for when you absolutely need to use like copying more games.

what xman said (go with big HDD)!
150 GB is certainly more than 10, & 2TB is certainly more than 150 GB (hear that 2 TB is THE Limit).
I'm new to this Stuff, but with the help xman posts & this site, & other sites, did a softmod & have a 2TB HDD.
running 1080 video. I say this because at some point you either go for it or don't.
Back to xman... I Have a handful of Games put on the HDD & agree. Seem to run Smoother, etc & I Have the Game Discs in an ammo can in the closet.
If you do go to a larger HDD, once you get past being pumped up about the new success, shrink wrap, bubble wrap & tape up the original drive & put in an ammo can in the closet
.
If Need be, you can crack it out later & do it all Again.
Trust the xman.
