have you tried a new lcd display it might be hart to find one of the these days?

you could put on an external pot to adjust the contrast as those chips have a software controlled contrast.
it could possibly be a dead buffer chip.

you mean that the buffer chip on the lcd is dead or the buffer chip on the mod chip?
i have tested two of them after i had disassemble it.
one is a white ea dip display and one is a blue ea dip display (ea dip 204 ks0073 controller).
both of them doesn't work, when i will test these i must solder directly on the chip right?

Did the problem started when you updated XBMC4Xbox to 3.5? I submitted a bug concerning Contrast adjustment when a SmartXX V3 is detected (must have detectmodchip enabled in advancedsettings.xml). I provided a solution and specified that this was untested as I don't have a SmartXX V3 to test it on.

Try to run a build prior rev 32875 to see if the issue is still there.

It's possible my "fix" is wrong. It's just I'm having a hard time figuring how the makers of this chip were able to control both brightness and contrast from the same LPC register! Other SmartXX chips all uses 2 separate registers (0xF701 for backlight and 0xF703 for contast).

No it is not a xbmc4xboc Problem. It is definitely a hardware based problem. I think when I was doing this at a night work, I had Reverse polarity i think because i was very sleepy.

No it is not faulty. I bought a newer 4x20 LCD from Zyscom.
This works fine.

I use the entry in advancedsettings.xml with <disablemodchipdetection>false</disablemodchipdetection> because i can not see my SmartXX in Systeminfo.
In the LCD Option under System Settings my SmartXX is showing up and running (with or without the advanced settings entry).

And selling this Chip is not an Option for me. Before that i will made a Keychain off it XD
