having problems setting up smb share

Can somebody help me please?
I've been experiencing problems creating a smb share to view files stored on my PC via my xbox.
The xbox has xmbc3.3.3 installed. My PC is running linux mint17 using samba to create a smb share.
I seem to get a share created and am able to view files, but at other times the xbox cant find the share.
I have tried via my android tablet as well and that also says it cant find a share.
for example, last night I deleted my shares and then created shares for 2 folders. After leaving the PC running, but turning the xbox off to return later and try to reconnect, the share with the PC couldn't be located.
I've tried searching, but feel as thoughmy brain cells are about to melt.
