xbox360 drives liteon to benq

i know this is a sketchy topic and its for 360 instead of original. my friend gave me his old 360 that had RROD. i fixed the RROD but while i was at it i also read the DVD firmware and grabbed the drive key as a preventive measure (lost previous 360 due to dvd drive frying with no way to retrieve key). so now i got it done and woulda ya know it, the drive has reading issues. i don't have any 360 games yet but it cant even read original xbox games like halo 2 and stuff. my friend forgot to mention that about it and when i asked he remembered it having problems.

to the point however. luckily for me i already have the drive key and i have a spare Benq drive i was going to try to use for my old 360 but never did because how complicated it is. but the current drive is a Lite-on. do i have to use a new Lite-on drive or can i use my Benq drive and flash the key and still be good with LIVE? i want to be able to play LIVE legally, i already ordered all new controllers, wireless adapter, and harddrive. i don't want this 360 to get banned

well did it anyways. don't know if it will play 360 games but don't see why not. I can play original xbox games and was able to sign in to my old LIVE account. the account is just a free one tho so when I put a 2 month on, idk if it will say anything then or not

best idea is to buy a laser and leave it as is.

you will get banned cross flashing the firmware. or end up with a brick if you apply an update that patches the drive firmware.

ive been playing a few of my friends older games he doesn't play (Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 atm). I haven't gotten Xbox Live GOLD yet. im waiting to see if I get banned or not with my free account first. I figure that if my 360 flags its wrong brand drive like I know it does when you don't have a drive, theres no point in switching it back now. all I can do is wait and see. from what I found on google, you can use a different drive but you cant spool it (make it act like the original drive) because that's easily detected. its better just to use original firmware but change the key
