Modchip advice, info and possible sale

Post by sixties keith »

hi guys i had an xbox which needed a thump from time to time to make it work. long story short it was a chipped xbox which had a wire loose on the underside of the mobo and when taken apart for modding the wire completely fell off :(

with no wiring guides and little modchip working knowledge im hoping someone can tell me what it is, if its any good and if its worth something

Top of the chip

wiring for the underside

as far as i know the chip should still be in working order if someone knew how to replace the missing wires - as far as i can see all the wires needed with the modchip are there inc the bank switches.

If someone is interested let me know, would rather send the whole board with the chip rather than try and remove it. Also wouldn't be interested in a money transaction instead preferring a swap for something i can use on other xbox's needing modded :)

anyways thanks for the help guys

Looks to me like an Xecuter v2.6. Installed on a v1.6 mainboard using a DIY-wired LPC rebuild rather than the much neater LPC rebuild board which originally came with the chip.

1.6 Xbox need to have their LPC port rebuilt. Not all the necessary signals are routed.

Follow the Xecuter 3 installation tutorial, it's exactly the same procedure as for your chip, which is an Xecuter 2.6 (non-CE by the looks of the altenative +5V wire). Just stop before the front panel switch installation

http://team-xecuter.com/x3/tutorials/x3pin16.htm

Pay close attention to the section covering the LPC rebuild.

My advice would be to completely rewire the LPC rebuild. The installation on your pictures looks like crap. No wonder why you had issues.

well at least you guys know what your talking about and thanks for the quick reply.

the xbox worked great apart from needing the odd thump but apart from that it works away for over a year before i took it apart.

so is it a good chip? and if so is it worth much? also does it have to be used on only a 1.6? cheers

It's a decent chip, it can be used on every Xbox revision but better reflash at least one bank to FlashBIOS if it were to be installed in a 1.0-1.5 Xbox.

1MB flash split in two 512KB bank.
Front panel switch to control chip and get HDD/LAN activity.
Xecuter quality.
No onboard OS but is it really a necessary feature?

You could probably get between 10$-20$ for the chip if every part is in good condition when you pull it out (main chip, wire harnesses and front panel switch module).

Honestly I would sell the Xbox with it. It's not a chip worth spending a lot of money on IMO. Xecuter 3, SmartXX and Xenium are what people are looking for.

thanks mate for the advice as i really have no clue with mod chips. even the bank switches were never touched juz more of an ornament on mine lol

unfortunately i used the case and other xbox parts in other projects so really just have the mobo with chip installed. if i knew more about the chips And had another xbox i might have tried to sort it but i just really dont have the time and no how to do it.

however at that price there isn't really much point selling it tbh i thought it might have been worth more since these chips are getting hard to find however i still may be tempted unless i can find a nice part for a future mod i could swap for so i may attempt it yet lol
