HeXEn XBMC dash change fails

Steps on a v1.6 using a newly installed Kingroach NDURE 3.1...
4.1 Install XBMC to E - Appears to work without reporting any issues
then do...
5.1.3.3 Switch to XBMC on E - Pop-up "FAILURE Batch process failed. The last item was: XBMC dash shortcut not installed Install XBMC to E first.. Action: rename"
wierd, so...
5.2.3 Install XBMC on E Dash Shortcut - Pop-up "ERROR (and absolutely nothing else in the pop-up)"

An additional test - starting E:/Apps/XBMC/default.xbe fires up XBMC. So 4.1 worked.
Other 5.1.n options to change dash to Evox or Unleashx on E: works as expected.
Only the XBMC dash change is failing - repeatably.

Anyone else seen anything like this before?

For ref, I fixed it manually -
Renamed E:/Dash/default.xbe to something else, then
Copied the Team XBMC Shortcut xbe and cfg files to E:/Dash/default.xbe and E:/Dash/default.cfg - ensuring cfg contained only the text"E:/Apps/XBMC/default.xbe" (without the quotes).
All is well on reboot.
