Which USB is compatible that's still on the market
Which USB is compatible that's still on the market
Hello,
I've been snooping around on here for a while. I recently decided to give my old Xbox a new purpose.
So I collected everything I need to do the 'save game' softmodding version.
But unluckily, I haven't found any USB device <4GB which is compatible with the xbox.
The compatibility lists that you can find online are way outdated, and most of the USB's stated there (if not all of them) aren't for sale any more.
Maybe one of you guys could help me with this? Anyone bought/used a recent easy-to-get USB device lately?
Thanks in advance!

Action Replay, but for that, you would need windows XP.

Have you considered hotswapping? You wouldn't need to buy anything else if you can just hotswap.

Unfortunately I don't own a XP anymore, and I don't know anyone around me with a XP.GhostlyGamer wrote:Action Replay, but for that, you would need windows XP.
Considered that, but I only have a laptop which makes the job quite difficult, at least for me.AZImmortal wrote:Have you considered hotswapping? You wouldn't need to buy anything else if you can just hotswap.
Thanks for the reply's anyway. I found on some other guide that they used the quite recent SanDisk Cruzer Edge 4GB. Going to give that one a try.

If you have Win7 you can run XP as a Virtual Machine...

Yeah there are some guides kicking about that makes a normal USB stick appear as an Action Replay..

SanDisk Cruiser 4Gb or smaller. There are others but these are what I use. Others may have a U3 partition that needs to be removed to work and to do this you will find programs for removing it on Google.
If you want to be able to write to the mem stick rather that just copy from it, you will need much smaller capacity units. Don't know why but I have only been able to copy from the Xbox HDD to the USB mem stick using up to 512mb mem sticks.

Generic swivel drives also work, the type with a plastic body and s/steel swivel cover.
Sent from my android coz apple is for pie.

Bought this one, but it doesn't work unfortunately. Will definitely look up google for some of the U3 devices.xman wrote:SanDisk Cruiser 4Gb or smaller. There are others but these are what I use. What country are you in? If you happen to be in the UK I'll put the Splinter Cell game saves onto a memory card for you if you post me one...If not good luck

I had a heck of a time finding one to work for my recent softmod. I had a Sony and a Centon stick that wouldn't register, but was lucky I had an old Lexar 256 MB that was a buffer stick plugged into my DVD player that worked. Thank goodness, there isn't a big Xbox mod community in Minnesota as far as I can tell.

Cheap crappy ones I find work, whereas expensive ones don't. When I was at college they used to hand them out for free, those are the ones I use.
This is what one of them looks like:

There used to be a piece of aluminium inlaid into the top and also a cap.

If you can find a memory unit, and if you're comfortable with soldering and have a spare USB cable (just the male "A" end is necessary, so the cable from a dead device is fine), then you can solder the cable end to the matching pins on the memory unit to allow you to connect it to your computer just like an Action Replay. Here's a tutorial for reference (should work with any memory unit, not just Mad Catz).

This is actually what I used to TSOP flash my first Xbox nearly a decade ago (I still have that memory unit), so it brings me joy that the site is still up.

Thanks for all your reply's!

Will definitely ask some friends for cheap usb devices. If is see the old compatibility list, I would guess that the smaller the better (in terms of MB/GB)

That's quite nice. Will try that if I'm really getting out of luck.
