Bridging connection and FTP
Bridging connection and FTP
So here's the deal.. I was running NaviX on my Xbox last night and had to restart my Xbox because it froze up a bit. Then I tried opening NaviX and it tells me my Xbox is not connected to the internet and it cannot open file. I didn't change anything up, my network setting is automatic dhcp and I had it plugged into my computer with the connection bridged. It's showing that it's working fine on my computer and there are no connection issues.
I also can no longer FTP anything to my Xbox, I'm assuming something has happened with my static IP.
Can someone please help me? I worked at this for 5 hours with no results. I'm about ready to just scrap my Xbox and forget about it but I really DON'T want to do that.

Re: Bridging connection and FTP
Have you checked the network settings on the Xbox? And if those settings are ok, then can you ping the Xbox?
Re: Bridging connection and FTP
Well I've got the FTP working, but I'm back to square one where I can't bridge the connection. I'll attach a picture so you can see what it's showing me. Note the red x over my connection in the bottom but also "Enabled, Bridged"
Also tried pinging, DCHP address is 0.0.0.0 and static is 192.168.0.3 and the second picture is what I got for both.

Re: Bridging connection and FTP
Same as mentioned above, if you're talking about the xbox screen.
LAN Connection is 192.168.0.2. I'm not very savvy with this kind of thing so let me know if I forgot a step somewhere.

Re: Bridging connection and FTP
After a bit more reading, I saw where someones ethernet chipset died. Is this possible as well?
Re: Bridging connection and FTP
Sorry for the multi posts but nothing is working. I can't even FTP now, I've tried multiple different IP Address' but nothing is working. I can't even find anything on the internet relating to helping me. I keep getting ECONNREFUSED.

Re: Bridging connection and FTP
Is plugging your Xbox directly into your router temporarily (or permanently) an option? This would help simplify diagnosing the problem by seeing if there's indeed anything wrong with your ethernet port. I've never done connection bridging so I can't really help you there.
Re: Bridging connection and FTP
I unplugged the modem and VOILA! I also shut down my computer and xbox. It worked and I watched NaviX for an hour.
Only problem now is that it did the same thing after working for an hour. Tried unplugging the modem again, shut down computer and xbox.. Nothing. Why is it picking select times to not work? I don't change anything on either console, it only happens when my xbox freezes.
Edit: I apologize if I'm coming across as short tempered. I've been working at this for 12 hours now and the only solution that worked will not work now.

Re: Bridging connection and FTP
I really have no idea what might be wrong, but I suspect that connection bridging is the underlying problem. Unfortunately I can't help you there, but if you wouldn't mind spending some money on a router that's compatible with DD-WRT (maybe around $30-$50), then you can connect your Xbox to it and set it up as a wireless bridge to your router with likely zero problems. It would require following a few tutorials but nothing crazy.
I also don't believe that it happens when your Xbox freezes, but rather your Xbox freezes when the connection drops. Is connecting your Xbox directly to your router not an option? I realize that it might not be, but I just want to rule out any possible solution since it would probably work just fine connected directly to your router.

Re: Bridging connection and FTP
It's possible to connect it to the router however there is no TV where my router is so it wouldn't do a whole lot of good.
Regarding the xbox freezing, it's happening when I try to open a file. Example, I was watching one TV show and then I went to watch a movie and it froze. It's interesting that you bring up it's freezing when the connection drops, it just seemed to me the other way around because it would happen once I tried another file.
HOWEVER, here's what has recently happened. I ran command prompt and entered ipconfig/ all. I got the network bridges ipv4 settings. These included ip address, subnet mask, default gateway and dns. I clicked on network bridge properties, ipv4 properties and checked use this ip address. The three inputs then highlighted. I copied the ip address and raised the last part by one number ex. 192.168.0.11 and I changed it to 192.168.0.2
I then copied the subnet mask which was 255.255.255.0. Did the same with default gateway (192.168.0.1) and didn't change it. Then I copied the 2 DNS which were the same as the gateway. I left the first one as is and raised the last number (192.168.0.2)
I saved these settings and it worked, I connected. Then my Xbox froze once again. I powered it down and then booted back up and to my amazement, it was still connected. Normally after that happened I'd be complaining here about it but this time it stuck with the connection.
I'm not sure what's going on, if maybe my changing the network bridge settings had something to do with it but that's where I'm at right now. Maybe worth noting for future users who run into this same problem. I will keep you all updated in case it fails again but in the meantime I thank you all so much for helping me out.
tl;dr version: I changed network bridge settings and it now works.

Re: Bridging connection and FTP
That is indeed the most common reason for a freeze (especially navi-x as the script GUI uses more RAM than a standard plugin). Have you read this post, especially the bit about known issues? If you enable debug logging in system settings you'll be able to see exactly what's going on with the FreeMem and it will give you a better idea of how to use Navi-X. Sometimes when trying to play a video that doesn't work it takes a while to release the memory again and if you're quick with your navigating you'll eventually use up all FreeMem and will end up freezing the xbox. Best bet it so enable debugging and take a look at the FreeMem for yourself, might help you out a bit - sometimes it never releases the memory so exiting and running Navi-X again is the best option.
