CRAZY cool XBMC device coming out soon

Post by coacharnold »

Hi folks ...

I'm in no way trying to advertise here .... Ive been doing some work with a small audio/video company here in the US. We're working with a very interesting Asian company ... who shared something really cool they are working on ..... basically it's their version of the xbox with xbmc running on it. Ive seen dozen's of xbmc devices and if what they say is true this one is going to be the closest to our beloved XBOX if not better.. They've got full blue ray file support and seem to be building it as robust as our old girl.

below is the text brochure they've put out ....

I believe the're looking at 150 to 200 dollars US

Honestly, as a long time XBOX4XBMC user I have to say I'm really excited by this

Tim

Brochure Text

XBMC Media Player

Experience the Future….

The Embedded360 XBMC Media Player will carry you to a virtual world with unlimited possibilities. Your living room will be transformed into a fully connected home theater. XBMC supports 3D along with full HD and 5.1 audio streaming from local and network sources as well as access to uninterrupted on-line content. The XBMC media player will unravel into an amazing user experience.
Since the device is powered by the XBMC media center operating system, it supports all major audio and video codecs. The device provides an input for an external eSATA hard disk drive and three USB drives for unlimited access to local storage content.

The XBMC is fully equipped with standard network streaming protocols for network file access (samba and windows share) to content stored on a PC or in a local file -

server via wired (Gigabit Ethernet) connectivity. The huge ever growing add-ons by XBMC along with a highly usable and customizable navigation menu will allow the user to continually expand the scope of the XBMC media center experience.

The device uses the latest high definition media interface (HDMI) connections, which will provide the highest quality picture to support modern televisions. At the same time the device is backward compatible with composite and RCA audio outputs to provide analog video and audio signals. Included with the media player is a standard IR based remote control which directly supports all device navigation through the highly usable XBMC menu. As well, the device has a low form factor in dimensions and uses an energy efficient design with low power consumption and heat dissipation.

what is the goal for this?

xbmc on linux ,you can instal openelec on a old pacard bell imax mini 1600 and you have a nice fast booting xbmc mediapc.
You can install a for speed optimized xbmc on the low cost rasberrypi and you have a nice little xbmc mediacenter .
You can install a Gotham Alpha (and when Gotham is released the stable) on a BoxeeBox (its Linux and Xbmc )
And this for a little from the Money what this machine will cost.

' basically it's their version of the xbox with xbmc running on it'

what ?
It is april.

You mean she working on a xbox (microsoft licenced) Gamemediacenter Solution ?
What is the Base (xbox 1, xbox 360)?
We will that work ?
She starting the winnt Kernel from the xbox 1 and this access a Linux Layer with Kernel and all the driver and this access xbmc?
XBox 1 Base can not work a Linux Kernel the driver and xbmc want more ram as the max amount of ram what the xbox can hold and the cpu is not fast for this?
She have a full videosupport driver for Linux and all the others drivers what not works on xbox360 developed?

Oh
'Graphical core : ARM Mali' not 'basically it's their version of the xbox with xbmc running on it'
no games for the xbox works!
ha, ARM (Advanced Risc Maschine) the Prozessor for all what is low cost (the only native BS was RiscOs)

It is just another ST linux set top box based on the sh4 chipset it will have no backward compatibility with the xbox what so ever it is not fast enough.

and i think it decodes 1080p at a max frame rate of 24hz unless it has had a speed increase in recent months.

But they have done some real work porting xbmc to a new archeture.

The chipset has be largely adopted by the sat community as the industry standard, and is in fights with broadcom and the dreambox community for top dog basically a low power vrs raw speed battle.

It would be intresting to see if they let you at the source as many of developers including team ducktales, open pli, titan nit, and aaf digital would love the source for embedding into their sat decoders.

any idea on embedded tv tuners or a free minipci slot ?

No internal HDD storage?

I rather see this, cause then you have everything in one box instead of a external HDD.

the chipset has two embedded sata ports and supports sata multi switches so it could possibly have an internal disk

I'd go the Ouya. Sounds similar and is half the price and being supplied in a horrible case, heaps of modding potential. I haven't seen the Ouya as a PAL version yet though however NTSC is available.

wont beat the xbox until it can emulate xbox and ps2 games. who cares about bluray? get a ps3 for less than $100 now and jtag/rgh to run homebrew, cant beat an xbox original though even if it means no bluray.

it might be cool to them, but if xbmc4xbox was about media only it wouldnt exist, its about the hardware full stop, anyone can get a pc and make it into a media center, but xbmc4xbox is just magical/legendary, it shouldnt work but it does because someone (buzz and those others who have special powers) decided it should be so.
