FRAGing xbox sometimes boots?

Post by nidge »

Hi everone, Re-posted in the the right place now. Sorry

I have a chipped Xbox here, that does the trying to boot 3 times and then displays flashing RED & Green LED thing!
But about one in about twenty times it will boot normally? I have tried several times checking for dry joints, and I have rerun the soldering iron over a few points, that looked suspect.
I also tried replacing the PSU, and putting new thermal compound on the CPU and heatsink.
It still FRAGs without the modchip plugged in btw.
The Xbox is PAL v1.1, with an Akira plug in modchip.
Any suggestions guys?
Just thought I haven't tried the modchip in another Xbox yet?

Why don't you flash the tsop? From memory you just bridge a couple of solder points and re-flash with your desired bios. Just be sure to resize correctly as (iirk) 1.1's are 1mb, not the more common 256k.

edit: oops, didnt notice it fragged with chip removed doh!

if it frags with the chip removed it looks like the tsop may have been flashed and stuffed or the board is in some way faulty.

Agreed with the above statement, did you check the solder joints on the chip and the bottom of the mobo? Maybe the D0 wire came loose on the bottom of the board?

If you haven't removed/replaced the Aerogel capacitor yet (and repaired the damage) then it's high-time you get on it. All Xboxes (aside from the v1.6 perhaps) need this done ASAP.
