Controller port mod (LED)

First as you can see i didn't remove the entire metal shield, leaving the top part on (bottom on picture).



The pre-solder technique seem too unprecise to me so i decide to solder the resistor first then the led after (using tweezer), and connect them together once they where in place.

To put the shield back on i just had to clip it back in place then re-solder it whit the top part like it was (re-solder part can be skiped..)




Gotta be careful not burning the led, heating the resistor to much , unsolder wire or bridge them.

Most important thing is to be sure there is no short between wire, led and the metal shield!

sorry mate feel free to delete this post since you have put another one up.

quick note -i dont do this mod anymore as with a good set of strip lights you can simply place a strip in space between front of mobo and front panel. then remove the metel shielding from around the ports and replace. The strips i buy come pre-resisted so i simply plug into the hdd molex and boom! job done

Do you have any pictures of the lights on the ports with the LED stips? I have 2m blue LEDs stripe laying around, I will maybe try this out.

i posted up a few pics of an xbox which had a chip in it which i didnt know about. going to mod this since i have green strips and a green chrome vinyl.

i'll take some pics after and fire them up. the strip i use is pre resisted but not as small as 2mm lol also casn be cut every 3 leds to make shorted and wont effect working of led's.

i use 2 24 strips but really 3 work work far better (a strip just for the ports) defo not as bright but would depend on strength used. only reason i like this is it lights the port up and not half the room haha

this was the result hope this looks ok to you. as i said would look even brighter with another set of led just for the ports but i think its ok for night viewing lol

It really looks nice, I will do it with blue LEDs, I will just have to figure out how to place the strip where did you solder the 12v and GND?

i added mine to the hdd molex connector and therefore no solder required. this also allows 12v which makes the strips brighter. Yea blue would stand out well. i have a super blue strip im going to use in another xbox and it will be brighter than its green counterpart.
