Unlocking xbox HDD without xbox or eeprom

Post by Koitsu »

The xbox had error 16, so we ordered another xbox, but we want to use the Seagate 300gb HDD that was in the old xbox. But we can't do anything with the HDD with it locked. The old xbox will not run any discs, but I have a modded xbox. The modded xbox won't affect any changes to the Seagate HDD while it's locked.

Do you know what software was used to build the HDD?
Some software has a master password, like XBHDM (xbox hard drive manager) has the master password 'XBOXSCENE' (without the quotes).

I would just fix the original xbox. Error 16 should be easily fixed with a boot disc like HExEn, AID or Slayers.

The old xbox wouldn't run any discs, but I found help from an old spot. Since my own xbox is modded, I was able to hotswap EIDE cables and restore the m$ dash to the seagate HDD through my xbox with Slayer's disc, turn off the old xbox with its own EIDE cable back in, and the original dash was restored.

(Anyone following this and wants to attempt it FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT TURN OFF THE ERROR 16 XBOX BEFORE YOU PLUG THE HDD BACK INTO IT. The xbox will lock with a different password, and you'll be completely buggered aside from chipping that xbox or making an eeprom reader.) Also, before you turn on the Error 16 xbox, make sure the DVD drive's EIDE is unplugged, but the HDD's EIDE is still plugged in, then you can turn it on, just put them back before turning the xbox off.

Anyway, we now have an xbox with a 300gb HDD, and only the m$ dash. It'll have to be softmodded again, but that shouldn't be a problem.
