Help out a noob wiith a few things.

Post by Starlight66 »

Hi there.

I'm having an issue with custom soundtrack in games, i've got some music down through XBMC but, when i go to play a game nothing is recognised.
I've tried searching a few times online, and with what little i have found, all i see is i need to upload my music through the original xbox dashboard.
I bought a modded xbox this is not one i have done myself.

Could anyone please tell me how to get the original dashboard down? it will probably seem like a stupid question but i am a massive noob with this and it has already taken me awhile to figure out how i backup my games on HDD xD

Also while i am here can someone tell me how to get emulators down and where i get roms for them and how i can get them to work perfectly? i am mostly insterested in a SNES and PS1 emulator so any help with those will be much appreciated :D

you can just copy music of the correct format to the e drive udata music directory but it has to be in wma format under 128 bit i believe it is best to rip it from the original dash board it is on the c partition called xboxdash.xbe i think you can get to it from the file manager in xbmc4xbox.
if your xbox is soft modded it may depend on the type how to get there.

as for emulators you have a chioce xbins is probally the biggest collection.

Thank you for the input and i'm going to try out the custom soundtrack idea now.

While i'm doing that can you tell me how to use xbins? I am unsure as to how to use it.
For example i went on it, and i did a search for PCSXboX and naturally went to click on the download link for it, but it just sends to me a completely different site to which does not seem to have the download at all.
Also where are roms acquired for this emulator if you know? or if they are just the same as any regular roms for emulators like on pc, do i need to put them in ISO format, or does there have to be some special kind of thing done to the files for them to be recognised and playable on the emulator when it is on the Xbox?
Say for the sake of example i have Metal Gear Solid 1 Disc 1 extracted as an ISO (Downloaded from emuparadise), now it runs fine on my pcsx emulator for pc, will it run exactly the same way if i put it onto PCSXboX whenever i get it if i just leave it as an ISO?

Also can you tell me how to view gamesaves on xbmc? I think i've figured out where they are, they are listed as a bunch of numbers and letters mixed together, but is there any way possible to view them like you could on the original dashboard or atleast something similar to that because at some point i'd like to backup my game saves somewhere.

Edit:i tried what you said with the music step by step but it has done absolutely nothing, i have tried it on Rallisport Challenge 2 but had no joy, custom music is still not being recognised, is there no other way than what you said? i don't have the original dashboard as stated so i can't do it that way, and just to note the files are from their original discs not copies incase that helps.

xbins is an ftp server the site you mention is just a list of what is on there, (the http listing) look for a program called autoxbins it will make things a lot easier :-)

there is a program called the xboxmusic mixer you can connect your xbox to your pc and copy music across the network in custom soundtracks.

roms for the pc work on the xbox etc...you just need to read the read me with the piticular emulator to find the format it supports but i believe pcsxbox supports bin iso and all the otherpopular formats that the pc version supports.

you can show the game saves in the program menu in xbmc it lists them all by name and picture, you can brows them manually by going into e drive tdata and udata.

the music files go in these folders in a specific format (wma8 format) or the xbox wont recgonise im guessing you just dumped wma files in udata that wont work probally as there is a database file you need to update and it really cant be done by hand., i was thinking you had a sound track and wanted to copy it on.

if you have your music in wma there is several programs to put them on your modded xbox one called Soundtrack Editor (XSE) and XboxST, i suggest you try google it had heaps of information.

as above is it softmodded or hard modded as we may be able to help you get to your original dash and do it the easy way with cd's?
