Re: Case Mods Showcase
Time to show my own work in progress. I think I'll just dremel it down to a regular slim next and be done with it, although spray painting the plastic black might be a nice way to cover up some scratches (if I can be bothered taking it apart again)!

Mods include:
- Noctua 5v 60mm fan. This thing is SO QUIET even on full blast, highly recommended mod IMO. It plugs right in and works perfectly, I'm surprised I haven't seen this suggested before.
- SSD. Yes, you read that right, and for me it's totally worth it even with the huge PATA bottleneck (although for that reason I went for a cheap SanDisk rather than a more expensive Intel or Samsung). Silent, cool, shock-proof, instant seek times... I compared a PGR 2 track to the DVD load times in this video. 14 seconds for DVD, 4 seconds for SSD. Anyone care to load up Stockholm Gamla Stan Loop in PGR2 on a HDD and tell me what the load time is for comparison?
- Swapped the GPU heat sink from a dead 1.4 into it (the tiny fan on the 1.0 is so whiney and pointless).
Sidenote: I noticed one interesting difference from 1.0 to 1.4 that isn't documented here - the power plug is bolted onto the PSU, much more stable than the slightly wobbly one on my 1.0 without those bolts. Probably doesn't make a huge difference ultimately, still a shame they didn't do that sooner!

Here is my classic v1.0 Xbox

The only mods so far are:
- swapped original HDD for 120GB
- removed GPU fan
- installed heatsinks
- added 80mm case fan
Next up will be an even larger HDD...

@spinnersp - Thanks. I found the wood-grain texture online, dropped it into Photoshop, and had it printed on vinyl at a local sign shop. It was printed on a piece of vehicle wrap material, so it was easy to work with.spinnersp wrote:@ Mikey. That's awesome.Love it.How'd you achieve the wood grain.
Looks good in my black TV stand.
Re: Case Mods Showcase
Never thought I'd see faux-wood panelling actually look good on something.
The green of the jewel does not colour conflict with it, too, but surprisingly compliments it.
Very sexy.

Re: Case Mods Showcase
Did this. It's a v1.4,and it isn't complete yet. I just need to read the EEPROM and build a drive with it. I should note that the original EEPROM chip that actually came with it was dead (blinking red ring),so I had to take some time and solder my old 1.4's EEPROM on this board.
What do you think?

Re: Case Mods Showcase
Ok some pics of my old projects from back in the day. Sorry but this is pick heavy

And here are a couple of Xbox and ps2 that have spent a decade in the loft. My X3 box with X3 LCD front and chip, 500gig hard drive, coin ops 8, cut top with leds etc. The other Xbox was a spare non runner but since rescuing it I did a softmod the other day, put some leds in and a 160 gig hard drive and coin ops. Just need to repaint my main console in flip paint to match ps2. But wether they ever get used I doubt it lol. I still have my halo 3 limited Xbox 360 which I swapped a 250 gig hard drive in and had a new internal from Microsoft but that's sat in my bedroom along with the helmet and a sealed mc farlane controller plus all the original boxes and internals. Then there's is my unused Xbox one which is just gathering dust lol.

My old fav ps2 , 5 colour flip paint, Rossi sir brush, matrix chip I installed along with 160 gig hard drive and leds.

More of my old projects

Wow - my boxes are not as nice as what you guys have. But my main boxes have X3CE with the LCD front panels, X3IR kit, 80mm fan mod, 80 pin IDE cable, 2tb HDD, and the blue power mod. The other two i gave to family (three is enough). The Xecuter 3 crystal I got off of Ebay.

Re: Case Mods Showcase
Looking at the pic alone I though you placed a fan in the place of the Xbox logo.Zaazu wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2017 7:00 pm I did some small modifications to an old xbox:

BTW. nice to see another Lion King fan here.

Re: Case Mods Showcase
Glad you like it! Ended up cutting into the jewel so I can still have the logo but also keeping the system cool.

The Pink Devil
Not very modded, but a clean nice look IMO. Pink leds under custom jewel. I may do a controllerport mod too.
