Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
Well i can emulate XBTool with WINE (i use linux) and it works. Thanks for posting the link to the x2 4981 its the one i wanted in the first place. Also where do i put the bios on the hard drive for flashing and WHY does Hexen red ring on the Xbox status LEDs?? Its bugging me that its doing that.

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
Cromwell can ONLY boot Linux. UnleashX, Evolution-X, XBMC4Xbox, Xbox games, all those will NOT work using Cromwell.TheGeekoid wrote:Okay heres why im using cromwell. First off, i prefer UnleashX over EvoX. Second off i wanted the x2 4981 but couldnt connect to Xbins FTP server or find it anywhere else. Third off Cromwell has a GentooX bootloader. I can use it to load Linux or any Dashboard of choice. Fourth off, people say its a stable bios (ive heard complaints for IND bios for my Motherboard Rev.)
It's a BIOS you will want to use on the second bank of a modchip, or on the TSOP of an Xbox you ONLY use for linux, pretty useless in most situations.
Do NOT edit Xbox BIOS's in Linux using Wine. XBtool and EVtool are appearing to work fine, but truth is they are/might not. I personally had trouble before.TheGeekoid wrote:Well i can emulate XBTool with WINE (i use linux) and it works. Thanks for posting the link to the x2 4981 its the one i wanted in the first place. I repeat, do NOT edit Xbox BIOS's in Linux using Wine, especially to flash on a TSOP. (ie: not on a modchip with multi bank and a way to recover from a bad flash)
I'm a full time Linux user too, but I'm never taking chances when it's about firmware and hardware that can be bricked. I boot in windows. Always keep that in mind.

For a TSOP:
If your Xbox is a v1.0-1.1, use X2 5035 (1MB TSOP)
If your Xbox is a v1.2-1.5, use iND-BiOS 5003 (256KB TSOP)
X2 4981 is also a valid option, but we are talking of a TSOP here. If something goes wrong your TSOP is dead, your Xbox will only work with a modchip.
X2 5035 and iND-BiOS 5003 settings can be edited from a text file on the Xbox HDD. Much wiser choice for a TSOP IMO.
For a modchip:
X2 4981, X2 5035(require 512KB+ bank), iND-BiOS 5003(Not working on v1.6).
Once your TSOP is flashed, you can keep your HDD unlocked as it won't be necessary anymore.
Use this to access xbin. Don't mind the AV warning. Might not work on 1st try.

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
Do i enter that password while its booting HeXEn and it has a red ring? No ones telling me anything about hexen come on people!!!!
Okay the X2 5035 bios i have is 512k and i have a 1024k (1MB) tsop (its a sharp TSOP) and i have Xbox version 1.1. The 4981 that i edited is 256k. There is a resize option in XBtool but im not sure i want to trust it. (PS i HATTTEEEE windows and i dont have any computer running it/ have an install disc)

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
Unless im mistaken isnt the TSOP chip just a little to the upper right of the LPC Pinhole port right? If it is it says SHARP on it in the middle.

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
Nobody is telling you about HeXen because none of us knows about this tool (search and read doc). It is just a compilation of some dashboard edited with apps and files. So I'll assume it uses the standard "C:\bios.bin".
HeXen gets a red ring because author likes the red ring more than green, no worry here.
I don't know what password you mean, you don't have to work with a password.
->as long as you don't have a custom bios let your hdd locked or you will be in a damn situtation.
Xphazer is right, since Wine is not proven to work correct it could generate a crappy bios. Pls make a screenshot of what you want in xbtool and I can generate you files (256k,512k,1024k) in Windows. The resize works good using this tools.
Btw if you want an edited bios I would use evox M8 plus its newer and some better than 4981.

Sharp Tsop requires an extra 5v to flash, there are countless tutorials out there.TheGeekoid wrote:Unless im mistaken isnt the TSOP chip just a little to the upper right of the LPC Pinhole port right? If it is it says SHARP on it in the middle.
As for Hexen it's just an UnleashX front end with a compilation of useful tools.
You have a 1.1 xbox so use the Evolution X dashboard to flash your Tsop & there is no need to resize the bios as evox will do that for you. (It just writes the bios 4 times if it's a 256kb or if its 512kb twice)
For flashing with evox you make folder called Bios in the root directory (same directory as the default.xbe) & place the bios in there.

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
Can you get the X2 4981 Bios and resize it to 1MB please. I decided i dont really want to modify anything. Also do i just put the Bios at the root of the C: directory?
i would prefer to use HeXEn to flash it as i already went through the trouble of burning the disc.

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
Well i got the points Soldered and i hope i didnt overheat the board. I used a 30 watt iron wich i heard was reccomended for motherboard things. Okay for the wire its going to be marvelous because my Pinholes arent soldered in already like on the 1.0. What kind of wire is reccomended?
EDIT: Also, when do i connect the wire for the Sharp TSOP? I hear you shouldn't connect it before you boot the Xbox.

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
Okay well i put her back together. When i tried to boot it, it powered up normally but gave no video or audio. I had the wire connected to the pinhole but not the Other spot for the SHARP TSOP (it might be touching the RF sheild and confusing it) But whenever i push the Eject button it shuts off, boots and behaves the same way. I will check the wire tomorrow. Also lemme know if it sounds familliar to anyone of you.

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
Look here, http://www.biline.ca/xbox_solder.htm follow this to the T.
As for flashing your Xbox use Hexen to do so, you don't need the winbond option, use the default option to flash it, it also should have all the bios you need.
Since you do not need to resize your bio.
The only time you resize your bios, is because your using Raincoat to flash your Tsop & you shouldn't be using this as its completely pointless unless you have a winbond Tsop. (It's the only flasher that supports erasing winbond chips & these are only 256kb & in 1.3/4/5)

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
What you said about "no video and audio" is not good. Sounds like you made an sodlering error. If your xbox ring cycles red, orange, green it is the so called "christmas tree" people from xbox360 call it "ring of death".
I had this too some months ago and could fix it by disabling my modchip and having a full working softmod. But in your case it sounds like you soldered maybe wrong points so xbox bios couldnt be read this is typical for not getting video and audio.
I hope you'll get this fixed. If so you have a 1mb tsop that allows you (you said no changes is okay) to use the newer x2 5035 what is maybe the best bios. I already posted a link including this bios. It's not 1mb but as Rocky5 pointed out evox auto resizes it. For destination I remember "C:\bios.bin" Rocky5 says "For flashing with evox you make folder called Bios in the root directory (same directory as the default.xbe) & place the bios in there."
That would mean in the root of HeXeN make "Bios" folder.

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
First of all, i burned HeXEn onto a DVD R, so i cant edit it. Second of all The Xbox booted up normally (led was Green, no Magic blue smoke coming out) The only thing is it didnt act like it loaded the softmod i already had on it. its supposed to go to a yellow LED and the fan goes to 70% power. I will see if the wire for SHARP tsop is doing something it shouldnt.
EDIT: Sorry i forgot to include that it still has no audio or video.

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
Do i need to connect the SHARP TSOP wire to it BEFORE or AFTER i boot the Xbox?? I just have one end connected to the Pinhole and the other end isnt connected yet.

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
Before you turn the xbox on, soldering whilst something is powered is inadvisable.TheGeekoid wrote:Do i need to connect the SHARP TSOP wire to it BEFORE or AFTER i boot the Xbox??
Soldering those two points, even without the wire soldered, should not make the xbox behave any differently. So lack of audio and video is not normal. Can you take a picture of your soldering?
Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
First of all the idea was to check out if you have the cable soldered before or after booting (of course before is only possibility without a switch) and if that would fix your christmas tree (assuming it). If the cable doesnt fix your audio/video problem than you have soldered very bad and maybe bricked your xbox and are forced to install a preflashed chip (at least chromwell) but there is no guarantee that the chip will work because this would only be possible if you havent bricked the xbox too hard.
Now to the "I cannot edit I burned": Yes I know this but of course you can extract the iso and repack it...
Btw: I read the link you posted few days ago and it says "cable is only needed to give extra 5V and enable flashing" so I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with the cable...

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
Well its not sounding to good right now.. The cable was touching the RF sheild though. As i said before the LED is acting like it normally does. I will get pictures of the soldering as soon as i can (got to find a camera that can zoom in on microscopic things lol) I might see a spot where i dripped a little solder but it looks like dust buildup.

Re: Hello!/ BIOS questions
okay honestly I'm not that good with electronics but if you have only soldered 2 or 3 spots in worst case you could try to completely remove soldering, maybe that could give life back to the box
