XBMC gets a new name...

Kodi, a stupid name? Yes without a doubt, it's the name of my friends dog.

Was there a need for the name change? With the legalities involved and the fact that all the letters that make up XBMC are now pretty much pointless I can certainly understand it. However that being said just like when the Xbox was dropped as a platform I don't agree with the decision BUT I do understand it.

A name is just a name at the end of the day, so long as the software remains opensource and the community isn't affected then who cares? I've got no intentions of renaming TotalXBMC, the fact that XBMC4Xbox is keeping it's name makes me feel justified in that decision

Yeah, as long as the Xbox version keeps the original name, that's absolutely fine

There will be ambiguity among "mainline compatibility"... now or plugins will need to stipulate more convoluted language

I saw the new banner change. And read about the new splash too.
Coudn't we just have the name of the forum as xbmc4xbox and let the xbox dash as it is at XBMC. And not xbmc4xbox.

I know someone made a comment before, saying it is double.
Like XBOX MediaCenter for XBOX

At least we got the XBMC name back. So why not stick with it. And leave 4xbox out of it.

Forgive me for being stupid but why not just call it xbox media centre again?? After all it is what it is. I never really cared for xbmc name if im honest I know/understand why they changed it but now I use the xbox for nostalgic reasons because its old school and its cool so why not take it back?

Because I don't want to change the name. We have everything set to xbmc4xbox, from the SVN, the domain, the server config, the wordpress site, the facebook page, the wiki, the branding, and so on. I assume those wanting to change the name are not offering up their free time to fix everything including references in sourcecode etc.

Feel free to discuss, but it isn't going to change.

As much as I would prefer that the tautology were resolved by reverting to XBMC, no change of name is going to happen unless someone volunteers to re-work the masses of project artefacts Buzz highlighted earlier in this thread.

Thus, until a volunteer steps forward, the discussion over individuals' preferred names is moot.

I have this domain paid up until 2017 also. Ok domains are not expensive, but everyone managed with the name up till now. It's not only a matter of all the work to switch everything, but also the fact that I don't think the XBMC project would appreciate it too (if we went back to using just the XBMC name). I enjoy being on good terms with them. Plus there is the fact I just don't want to change the name.. so ner
