I had another go tonight and not good I think .
It seems that after a while without power a long press will switch on the the modchip , as I get the evox screen but when I select xpb partitioner it gave me error code 05 .
Getting nowhere fast he heh he ......
Modchip surprise .

Is this worth pursuing or should i just go for a softmod ?
I did manage to boot to evox once without the disc and the previously posted details were the same

In case you have not got a softmod kit. Install it whilst there is still intermittently life in the modchip. Simply boot HeXEn and do a one-click softmod installation.hawsey wrote:Just tried again and it deffo only boots once after a while with power off in to the chip .

What this will do is if/when the the modchip fails to work at switch-on, it'll boot the softmod instead, so you won't be left without access to FTP, unsigned discs such as HeXEn/Slayers/AID, etc.
Re: Modchip surprise .
Ahh thanks spicemuseum , that is exactly the info I need, I wasn't sure if I could do that .
When I switch it on it boots straight to stock os so if I do the above it will be like the chip is not there .
The only thing is I want to put a 160gb HDD in there so would I just put the new HDD in , boot to the modchip , do the softmod then install the new HDD ?
Or would that not work ?
Sorry for all the questions
Thanks

Re: Modchip surprise .
Install the new hard drive. Boot with HeXEn. It might offer to prepare the drive for you, if it does then you should prepare the drive. Select option "3.5.4. New Disk, PAL Xbox" to set up the disk properly. Once you have formatted the disk (for 160GB I'd recommend putting all the disk as partition 6 (F)) you need to exit XBPartitioner (press back to get to the help page, then back again to exit), then use UnleashX file manager to launch D:\default.xbe, and select option 3.5.5. to lock the disk, then return to the main menu. Finally, select Option 2.2.4 to install the softmod.

Re: Modchip surprise .
As aitch says, do the hard disc first.
HOWEVER, one piece of advice whilst you still have intermittent modchip functioning, first thing you do - recover the eeprom.bin file off the box. That will make life a whole lot simpler if your modchip fails whilst building a new hard disc, or indeed any time thereafter.
