HDD Failing help

Post by sixties keith »

hi, many of you will remember my xbox red magma from the old forum. for years ive used it with no problems but reciently ive been getting the hdd error code. As its an 80gb hdd from about ten years ago the only reason this would be is because its had it day,

Giving it a bang sometimes starts it again (ive checked the wires etc to be sure but its defo the hdd) its chipped and im replacing the hdd the usual way.

However i used the console for gaming (emulators and games) and have backed these up however its that long since ive done this i cant remember where the save game files would be sorted, so:

Could someone please tell me what to back up for emulators and original Xbox games? as well as any other files i should consider backing up
? I also had a custom start up video done but have no idea where that file would be either so if anyone could help that would be great

you could use chimp to clone it across to another drive?

As for your file structure the games and emulators are most likely stored on f drive and you dont have a g partition as it is only 80 gig, so back up the stuff on there.

Your saves are stored in e:\saves\ and e:\udata and e:\tdata\ id back up them too your userdata folder with in xbmc might be worth backing up also it is in q drive i think if you have a newer build of xbmc.

As in for the rest it might depend on how things are done as your boot files could be on c/e or f drive and we can only guess what makes the custom anim on bootup.

If you may be able to post pictures of the root of c e and f drive we may be able to help you more.

If you trust some one enough from on here they could log in with teamviewer to your pc to have a look via ftp from your computer, thats how i fix my customers xboxes shuld they stuff something up :-)

it sounds like the spindle motor/bearings are starting to fail or the smooth driver chip is failing.

Thanks for all the info mate. i got most of my stuff off my drive and turned it off to get my dinner. that was it had tried loads of times to get it on since and all i get it the error code screen. i think taking all the games and emulators was enough for the hdd.

Not worried about the game saves i lost too much, i found i trainers file i forgot to install so i can use that the next time.

I use teamviewer myself great program never thought about using it for the xbox as i use it for pc repairs.
