You will have to ask Jan why he doesn't want to add his adapted addons to XAI. I don't know what changes have been made to his adapted addons, some of them are simply a couple of name changes (addon.xbe>default.xbe & icon.png>default.tbn) which is what I originally done for the majority of the ones on XAI to get them working. The [removed] addon has definately had some extra code put in, well maybe not into the actual plugin but it calls for external resources that have been adapted by Jan so if he doesn't want these added then I guess that's his choice amd I respect that. When I originally put the XAI repo together I contacted all the orginal plugin/script authors and got their consent and all of them seemed happy for their work to be available on an xbox friendly repo, I really know nothing about licenses but thought that was the least I could do and all their names are available to view in the credits. Whilst Jan may not be the original author of these addons he has still taken the time to "adapt" them for xbox use so I thought I should at least give him the same courtesy but so far he has declined the offer of integrating them into XAI - although to be fair he did give me permission to add some in the earlier days which are still available on the repo.

My understanding on why Jan doesn't want his stuff available on XAI is because he feels users will just use the installer and in turn will not donate. I "think" this is correct but I may have misunderstood the situation as I don't speak German and as we all know the universal translator doesn't always work too well! Maybe Jan will be able to clarify the situation.

Well, it doesn't actually help the project if they are not adapted, put on a repository and managed like that. No offense to Jan, but it is not his decision to make, nor is it mine, as the modified addons come under the same license as the original.

I don't completely warm to the idea of the beta nightly code being packaged up in the way it is - as bugs / beta code out in the wild can reflect badly on the project, but in the same way, it's not for me to say, as the license allows this and the code is publically available.

The project needs a repository of fixed up/working plugins. Jan's solution works, but it doesn't help the project development directly, as there are no source changes/diffs, and no public repository, and no possibility for collaboration.

btw Please can you make me a member/admin of your repository, so if I have the time, I can add some fixed up addons myself etc.

1)Yes this is what i mean and this is what it is!
2) XAI can not understand dependencies!
3) When we will have a reposity for working addons and this is the solution for you (xai) . why you put it not on the default build and on the skin's ( that what main xbmc have and why you not add the ability to access addons on the source '(not as a scriptmodul)!
4) When you put it on the default build and it can not access the dependencies its a bad situation for the user!
5) when you have it as default installer for xbmc4xbox on ther build or not(you can not add urlresolver addons - [removed] and all the others since XBMC piracy policy!)
6) it is better you look on a newer python for xbmc4xbox and the addon integration on the sources as rewrite some addons for the installer in your short time!
I am frustrated!
The donation have works for the First two Jan'sXbmc4xbox Versions but not for the last!
I am to very frustrated that it give no way to work with the coinops and dragon dash developer site on site (he has offers help but nobody notice it)!
For me it is i see the end for xbmc4xbox as media - solution , without a newer python and 128mb ram support on xbmc4xbox and without a comunity what works site by site !
It is a bad solution to have on next time to xbmc's on the xbox (xbmc4xbox- Dragon (Vision)!
xbmc4xbox what give the access to the media and python and Dragon or Vision what have 128 mb Ram a nice Gui and the aviability to access all the Emulator Games!
One Solution for all where the right Way!

All addons and Skins for xbmc since free and you can all make what you want with it!

didn't quite understand this fully

A newer python would only fix some of the compatibility issues. the addon issue would still be there. backporting the addon stuff for python is a massive undertaking.

Don't worry about the donations. I appreciate you are wanting to help the project, but people may not always have spare money to give. I certainly am not motivated by the money, although it has been useful for some bits and pieces. However the project can exist without also.

IMO its worst to force the users to donate than not having any donations.
Your download counts should be the reward that push you to make a newer version. :)

Put all requisites on the addon will inflates the plugin to unnecessarily

This is not what i think!
The urlib and socket and other from python 2.6 or 2.7 works better as the same from 2.4!
Example i can many not access with the 2.4 urllib2 on python 2.4 i access it with mechanize on xbmc4xbox!

I think not that you will make money with this but a donation have your help to donate to projects what you find nice and buying a 128MB xbox and give a little for the releasing the confluence light skin!
And i think that help to have more time for xbmc4xbox!

On moment i wait for the new Frodo release !
And then i look what we can adapt or not!
I have give to dersphere a complete softmodded xbox with my last jan'sxbmc4xbox with the option to help on scriptmodul.xbmcswift2 and i hope for more!

Well until we find or decide on what is to become the default installer shipped with xbmc4xbox, I will have a look at what IS still currently working out of the XAI repo over the next week maybe 2 and continue to push a few commits to its repo for anything outdated. That's the hardest part keeping all the plugins upto date, I dont use very many myself but I can start with the most popular ones and try to keep a few upto date

@whufclee, I did notice that the "Geek" section did not want to load up for me, It contains one of my fav video plugins (TwiT TV) I watch the live feed almost daily, I temporarily put a copy of it under the Movies & TV section untill we figure out why is not loading the Geek section, Could you see if its working on your end when you get a chance?

Are you definitely running the latest version of XAI? I did change some things a few months back so I'd recommend removing any plugin_data you have related to XAI and then reintall, it should load up all the new lists. If it's still a problem let me know and I'll see what the problem is.

Is the new XAI in the link on the OP of this thread? if so then yes I'm on the latest , and latest stable has been re-installed at least 20 times when I was debugging icefilms I deleted xbmc and re-installed to be sure there was nothing like caches or userdata and plugin data every change I made, that might make it work for me but break for everyone, I did not install any modules from it and I know it doesn't require any.

I will try again today, maybe it was due to the fact that I had just made changes to the repo then it would be a problem on google's end lol
lets hope that was the case

Well I tried it again on a fresh 3.2 install and that section still doesn't want to load up for me

If you get a chance you will find I put together a new youtube addon that works but no account login, only searching and browsing capabilities But it does play the videos, Also you should set the plugin to use SD only Its the YouTube4Xbox one

I don't know why I'm sending you this via the forum and not just going on Teamspeak, that would make a lot more sense! Oh well I'm here now so here goes...

Just had a quick look at the repo, well done on uploading the youtube and icefilms one. Any chance you could delete the old Youtube one? If yours is working and that one isn't we only want a working one on there so as long it has a description in there somewhere of what version it's based on and possibly any diffs that will be great.

I'll try and look into the geek section tomorrow and see what I've messed up.

Ok great, I left the old one as reference, I'll just copy it to my pc so we can remove it from the repo, I think it was from dharma, but the site is probably gonna change again soon and break and require another update in the future so I wont focus too hard on it yet till YT is done having there way with the interwebs

Yeah the XAI is now depreciated and no longer maintained in favor of the Addons4Xbox Installer, the XAI did serve its purpose for some time as a temporary solution to easily install addons to the xbox but it lacked the ability to fetch and install dependencies or modules, they needed to be included in the addon root folder and was not a clean way of doing things and often created conflicts between addons, Looks like the new installer has been working well enough for us that I can post the How to for installing it soon
