Repositories

Post by nwyoung »

Hello
I have recently soft modded my xbox using the Softmod installer deluxe.I have been using XBMC on my Computer for a while so i am familiar with it.
But on the XBOX is another story.I can't for the life of me find any way to add Repositories to the XBMC on the XBOX like you would with Fusion on the computer.
I would love some info on how to add Repositories via USB or Dvr...I have never used a FTP client and am somewhat iffy on trying it due to the lack of info .Which Drive do the Repositories and or SVN or XAI go into?Do i add the whole zipped or unzipped or a portion of the XAI download? I have found lots of info on what to do with them after there installed,But hardly anything on how to install them!
I see SVN in my favorites,But there is nothing in the file..IE..I open it and when i click on Video it's empty.
There is not an install from zip on my xbox xbmc anywhere that i can see.
Please help...I have a totaly fresh XBMC Dash and no way to do or watch anything :(
Thanks
Neil
PS...I'm not a total noob about these things,I found the info and put together the hardware for the soft mod in less than 24 hours. But i have been trying to get XBMC running on my xbox for almost a week and other than getting the Weather to work.....nothing!

All the answers you require are on here and have been asked before but I'll give you my personal opinion...

Use HeXEn rather than SID to do your softmod, everything you need to know is here. Just follow the guide, once you've watched part 1 there will be a link to part 2, then there is a link which will explain how to ftp.

For addons watch my other guide, just check my youtube channel which has plenty of xbox videos. Basically the xbox was the original platform for XBMC (XBox Media Center) but it was dropped as a supported platform a few years ago by team XBMC and so we have XBMC4Xbox which is maintained by ONE dev (buzz). This all means that we are quite a lot behind mainbranch so you'll find we don't actually have "addons", we still use the old "plugins" and "scripts" structure.

Ooh lucky you, this is post #500 for me on the new xbmc4xbox.org.uk forum :D

As you've already softmodded your xbox you should be able to start from the "softmod part 2" video guide. Basically burn HeXEn to disc and wait for it to load up on the xbox (takes about 30 seconds of a black screen so be patient) and then just follow the steps outlined in the video. Once that's done read the rest of the guide and continue with the link on what to do next with regards to updating via ftp.

The xbox came with two different stock HDDs, one was 8gb and the other model was 10gb so if you have the 10gb one you'll have a small 2gb F drive but if it's the other model you won't have an F drive. If you use HeXEn and try to format the F drive you'll know which model you have - if it still says there is zero space on there you know you have the 8gb version. If you want to stick a larger hdd in there there are a few guides on here of how to do that too - there are a few different ways to do it but if you do decide to go ahead and upgrade make sure you do your homework and check the HDD is compatible (needs to be lockable).

Well I'm just putting together my coinops package and trying to fit it onto a laptop hdd - it comes in at over 100Gb and that's with only a few PSX games and no Xbox games so you're not going to fit the full size one on a stock hdd! However I believe the Coinops5 Lite is made specially to fit on your E drive. Most of my xboxes are stock hdd's simply because I only use them to stream from my PC or the internet - I don't fill them up with stuff anymore so sold all the large hdd ones. However I now need to make another few large ones so I can fit Coinops on them (they will be going in arcade cabs). Having the extra 2gb F drive is really only a bit of a bonus, you could have maybe squeezed a couple of xbox games on there or about 3 movies.
