Shoutcast in new XBMC build
I got a old XBMC version on my second XBOX with Shoutcast working well only by using a shortcut in music category with the link: shout://www.shoutcast.com/sbin/newxml.phtml
It still works perfect but in any new version of XBMC this link won't work anymore. What did chaned in XBMC that the old version can handle this links and the new one can't and
how can i get the Shoutcast radio get back to work without plugins/scripts?

Re: Shoutcast in new XBMC build
actual stream links will work. the feeds will not, as it has been removed due to licensing issues. there are some plugins that will allow you to browse the streams.RootUser1911 wrote:I got a old XBMC version on my second XBOX with Shoutcast working well only by using a shortcut in music category with the link: shout://www.shoutcast.com/sbin/newxml.phtml

Re: Shoutcast in new XBMC build
to add from wikipedia:
In September 2008, AOL redesigned the SHOUTcast website,[3] which had been roughly the same since 2000. In 2010, SHOUTcast again redesigned it with more of an AOL look.[4] As part of the redesign, the directory and services were rebranded as "SHOUTcast Radio", rather than "SHOUTcast Streaming Technology." The redesign included a fully functional option to view the site and directory with the old layout.
VideoLAN says that AOL's license for use of the SHOUTcast Radio servers would “[force] us to integrate the spyware and adware based Shoutcast Radio Toolbar inside your browser.” and thus prevents open source software from using the SHOUTcast Radio servers. VideoLAN therefore removed support for SHOUTcast Radio in version 1.1 of the VLC media player, and pointed users to the Icecast directory instead. Only access to the directory of SHOUTcast stations was removed, not the ability to play SHOUTcast streams.[5]
other projects like xbmc did the same.

Re: Shoutcast in new XBMC build
Who (which company) cares if this XBMC4Xbox version supports Shoutcast?! i mean it's compiled with illegal SDK from M$
Do i really have to use Plugins now? Isn't there any way to take the old files needed for using Shoutcast from an older build to rearm this function?

I care - and AOL might care too.RootUser1911 wrote:Who (which company) cares if this XBMC4Xbox version supports Shoutcast?! i mean it's compiled with illegal SDK from M$![]()

Because we shouldn't support AOL's shoutcast and their restrictive license.
Because I respect the ethos of the xbmc developers.
and it's also removed because stuff like this is best served from a plugin anyway - it is what plugins are for.
the xdk license is unfortunate, and I don't really want to get into a discussion. But that doesn't mean I should break licenses everywhere because of that. However, as xbox is a dead platform, I hope it is ignored, and no feathers rustled. If it was or became an issue, I would remove all binaries. Ideally, I would like a situation where we don't have this issue.

Re: Shoutcast in new XBMC build
Plugins are slow and uses more ressources then the simple directory list so why doing it this complicated. I still don't understand this. Breaking the law in one hand but being a good boy on the other hand which don't give anyone anything. Thought that keeping alive the Xbox 1 media center is your/our aim. Btw. I donated to your project already, keep up the good work

Re: Shoutcast in new XBMC build
sorry you don't understand it. it has nothing to do with the xdk issue though. it's illogical to think that because we have one license issue, we should not care about any others. Ideally I would have ZERO licensing issues, or perhaps I should concentrate on the source and leave it to users to do their own builds, then I won't have to be accused of having double standards.
Thanks for the donation.
note: AOL were actively persuing projects. The folks over at VideoLAN are in the process of releasing version 1.1.0 of VLC, and one of the major changes is the removal of SHOUTcast, a media-streaming module from AOL-owned Nullsoft. "During the last year, the VLC developers have received several injunctions by e-mail from employees at AOL, asking us to either comply to a license not compatible with free software or remove the SHOUTcast capability in VLC." Within the license is a clause prohibiting the distribution of SHOUTcast with any product whose own license requires that it be "disclosed or distributed in source code form," "licensed for the purpose of making derivative works," or "redistributable at no charge." The license would also force VideoLAN to bundle Nullsoft adware with VLC.
Thanks for the donation.

Re: Shoutcast in new XBMC build
Hey guys. I've been using XBMC4XBOX for years, never needed support. I am trying to get Shoutcast to work. In the past I have used Navi-X. It was very slow but it worked. Can't find the install for Navi-X (going to figure that out soon). If anyone has more info or a work around, please let me know.
I posted on the main Shoutcast 2 thread here:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=143678&page=3
A paste from that thread:
I'm running the Nightly Build: Built on Dec 10 2012 (SVN:31650, compiler 1310)
I am finding 2 different Shoutcast 2 installs in plugins:
Plugins ->Addons4XBox installer -> Get Add-ons -> XBMC.org Add-ons -> Music Add-ons -> Shoutcast 2(2.0.1)
It installs fine, when I launch it, I'm getting a "Shoutcast 2:script error"
Using File Manager, I delete the Q:\plugins\music\Shoutcast 2\ folder.
I then attempt to install the other version I found:
Plugins ->Addons4xBox installer -> Get Add-ons -> XBMC4XBox Add-ons -> Music Add-ons -> Shoutcast 2(2.0.1)
It also installs fine, when I launch it, it starts to load, says Loading Directory, Retrieved 0 items and hangs (system hang)
I enabled logging. Not finding a way to upload the XBMC.log file here. Let me know and I can attach it here if I knew how. Thanks

Re: Shoutcast in new XBMC build
Shoutcast is a xbmcswift2 addon (it hat the dependencies on scriptmodule.xbmcswift2)!
The Developer sphere hat it forked on my wishes for xbmc4xbox we the fist xbmcswift fork to!
But on moment it works not for all xbmcswift2 addons!
Shoutcast2 is not working on moment on the xbmcswift2 fork for xbmc4xbox!
I delete it from the Repro!
On the last nightly 31650 all xbmcswift addons working not but that is a problem from the build and not from the forked scriptmodul!
Regards Jan!
When i have it workijng i add it again!
Regards Jan

@ n2locarz
95% of the addons found in the Addons4Xbox installer are working, but there are still a few being worked on Shoutcast2 is one of them, Feel free to follow the progress of the addons being added and adapted to it on this thread http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewt ... 7162#p7162
