hdd upgrade question ??

Post by creon78 »

so ive now got a softmodded box with a standard 10gb hdd, im wanting to replace the hdd with a 160gb seagate out of an old sky+ pvr. im stuck that my desktop has sata and my replacement hdd have ide, i dont want to be ordering off ebay various adapters a so on.

So my question, can i after ive transferred all data from the stock hdd onto my pc slot the replacement in then boot up will my desktop pick the xbox up through the network with the replacement hdd that still hasnt been formatted?

i want to access the pvr hdd whilst its in the xbox so i can erase it and format it for the upgrade, will it work this way or wont my desktop pick it up on my network? (xbox wont boot up etc)

i was considering splashing out and buying a usb hdd enclosure, i take it the xbox will be able to access it as ive now got usb in controller port number 4.

hope ive made sense!!

Nope.

You can use chimps, find an old PC, or TSOP/chip it.

i think your option may be to use chimp or mod chip/tsop the xbox.

with chimp you boot your xbox as it is modded with the 10 gig then run chimp wich is a small linux operating system then you pop in the pvr hdd into the xbox with a y molex power adaptor plug (when chimp is running).
then scan the ide port and you have the option of cloning locking etc... and from there i think you may be able to sort it.

you then also need to lock the hdd from the pvr which i believe you can do from chimp but i'm not 100% sure you can lock the slave hdd but i think you can?

xboxhdm 2.2 (the usb version) might work if you use a sata to ide adaptor i dont know someone else may be able to answer this ?

the pc if it runs windows has a very limited set of tools for manipulating xbox hdd's only through linux are you really with some reliability able to write and partition xbox hdd's.

the xbox will i believe only pick up one partition on a usb connected device and it has to be below 8gig as this is the limit of the xbox os/bios.
