Hi guys

after success of using XBMC on my PC, i have managed to install on to a jailbroken iphone and Ipad without an issue. awesome, so paid (extream) amounts of money for a cable to connect the ipad to the TV and a cable for laptop to tv so i can watch stuff direct.

clearing the loft out i found 2 old black xbox machines (1 chipped with 80gb drive in) the other just std xbox. then it clicked, this is where the XBMC came from, so started looking at getting this working as a full media centre.

after looking at these threads, i have downloaded the zip file 3.2stable, but still dont understand how to update the xbox without screwing things up.
i have Xbox media centre as an option from the menu when i start up the xbox, i also have it under programs (which is the one i use to watch films from avi disks at the moment)

if i unzip the file, the ftp it to my E drive apps folder, renaming the one there, will i then be able to put NAVI-X on and stream by connecting the xbox to my router for net access ??

sorry for all the questions, but i have never done anything with the xbox since it came out and a bit rusty.

thanks and keep up the good work, video tutorials are great :-)

I would just toss Jan's build on there, it comes pre-loaded with all the addons you ever need, yes even Navi-x, and If you screw up your dash or xbmc wont boot after the upgrade the theres an easy fix, I actually highly recommend to everyone to just run Heimdall's Hexen disk, You can update softmods in one click that will create a "backdoor " more of a rescue dash that will load up if you ever totally removed your current booting dash you wouldn't be stuck, and to top it off you can even choose the option to switch dashboard from the disk to xbmc, or if you ran the One-Click install to update your softmod (This will build mod chipped machines too, Just use the modchiped options instead) then It will place a folder called "Hexen Tools" into your e:/ that contains a utility that you can fire up and run the switch dashboard option to get it booting xbmc

I just walked spider through this whole procedure over the teamspeak server a few days ago and he had 2 machines fixed right up and on the latest xbmc in no time. Here's Jan's thread http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewt ... p?f=9&t=72

Hope that helps.

Good Luck

i just learned u can do this with old consoles,AWESOME! ok im here now cause evrytime i update i lose evrything? but when i ftp it shows its there or even when i run file manager. so how do i get this directed in the right place? i know some, ive customized ps3s,psps, iphones, droids for a couple years now but i am new to this.

i place update in root of E, is that bad? aid places folder there, so i just swap with update folder. but then no apps or emuls:( plus the only aid i find is 453 witch seems to be outdated since xbmc3.0. well this babies been sitting for years id like to bring her back, please and thanx in advance

EDIT:
Misunderstood your problem. Having re-read, I think you're having trouble finding the right place to put your replacement XBMC installation. Location depends a lot on your mod (hard/soft and variant thereof). Be aware that you should not try to FTP over the top of an XBMC installation whilst it is running - start another dashboard (for example, Unleashx). Best advice is to FTP to a parallel installation of the existing XBMC (say, XBMC_new) and then copy your userdata folder (and any plugins etc) from the old one to the new one - then rename* the old installation to XBMC_old and change XBMC_new to XBMC then restart.

*you can check it's a good installation before doing the final renaming by going into XBMC_new from the running UNLEASHX (or running XBMC for that matter) and clicking on default.xbe to run that instead.
