First, I would like to say thanks to everyone participating on this forum.
I downloaded the stable 3.2 build to replace an old bloated version of XBMC. It's nice to see a forum that is still actively discussing the original XBOX. I hadn't used my box in a while because I wasn't happy with the interface and I was having issues (outlined below).
I suppose my first question is, at what temperature does the xbox reboot? Previous versions of XBMC that I've had rebooted randomly, but then would keep cycling through reboots. I've been running the 3.2 version this morning for an hour, listening to music on the installed HDD. Max temp that I've seen is CPU 120-122oF and GPU 100-105oF, with my settings saying the ideal temp should be 115oF...I'm assuming the fan is maxed out trying to keep the temp down.
Curious more than anything - what is normal operating temperature? I have my xbox inside my TV stand with my receiver, so warmer than room temperature. I'd much rather hear that the rebooting previously was the result of an overheat...not another unrelated hardware issue.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Overheating
1. Change thermal paste on CPU/GPU http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewt ... f=14&t=158
2. You can also install 80mm fan, Xbox will be quieter (but for good performance and temperatures you should edit/config your bios and set new fan to 50-80% for games/emulators; for XBMC it can be slower, 20-40%) http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewt ... f=14&t=158
3. Normal temperature is around 45-55'C for CPU and 40-45'C for GPU. Xbox will turn off at 71'C on CPU.

Re: Overheating
Those temps are not bad at all. If i remember right the xbox will not reboot when it's hot, it will shut down around 160F ( i think) and the front ring of light will blink orange (i think). In XBMC set your fan speed to 40% or more, since it's tucked away in a cabinet noise should not be a factor for you. At 40-50% watch your temps and see how it does. Of course it never hurts to open up the case and blow all the old dust and whatnot out of there.

Re: Overheating
So, if the box doesn't re-boot when hot, then why would it reboot on me, and then keep cycling (re-booting)?
Seems odd - I wonder if it's hardware related or if my old mod chip connection points are getting loose?

Not sure man, i would double check power connections on the hard drive and all connections on the chip too. How often does it do the reboot on you?

Re: Overheating
1.x bios on a 1.6 xbox ?
I have done that before and eventually it frys the xbox ram and causes random reboots etc.... up until then.
it could be the fact you have a reset on eject bios and trace corrosion does the light flash green when it resets.?
have you trimmed or removed the rf shielding I know that causes issuies?

Re: Overheating
I just want to confirm what NextelHalo said about the xbox not rebooting on high temps. Like he says it will shutdown and you'll get some flashing lights (had this many times when attempting my first fan mod!).
