Modded XBOX game play help

Post by RooSixteen » Fri Jan 25, 2019 6:58 pm

Hello - Long story short I bought a used xbox. Apparently it’s been modded because when I try to play a game it just stays on a screen that says Xecuter2 underneath XBOX, but won’t go any further. No dashboard and xbox games don’t start up. I’ve followed a couple of tips, burned a Hexen disc, and that takes me to the Hexen dashboard.

All I want is for this console to be playable with original Xbox game discs. Does anyone know what path I need to take to make that happen?

I tried switching AutoLaunch Game to Yes, but says I need to save the setting to the hard drive which I don’t know how to do. Thoughts?

Please and thank you.

If you can get a HeXEn disc to boot then you can probably get a game to boot too. Cold boot ie. put the (original) game in the tray, close it then shutdown the Xbox and restart.

With a chipped/softmod anything not an original MS Xbox game disc should also boot in the same way but it must have been burned to compatible media. The only universal media for the Xbox is DVD-R.

Your Xbox is, probably, Xecuter 2 chipped but you must make sure of that and the only way is to open it up and see if you can identify the chip.

Why it does not boot discs normally or go to a dashboard? Could be two things BIOS or simply there is no dashboard or it that been corrupted in some way. With a chipped machine you can not really stuff it up except by mucking around with BIOS flashing. So do not do that without more expert advice than I can give.

If it is just a missing dashboard the HeXEn disc or other installer disc like AID will install a working dash. I'd suggest an UnleashX dash first and then decide if you want to swap it later to a XBMC main dash or install that as an app. Use the chipped menu options for installing whatever dash you decide on but, of course, only after you've confirmed it is a chipped Xbox.

BTW the HeXEn disc uses what is really just a modified UnleashX dashboard, AID likewise. Both have a file manager and it might be a help if you look (and perhaps provided screenshots here) of the content on C:\ and E:\ and report from the system Settings what it says about the HDD (make/size, locked/unlocked status etc) and whether you have a F:\ and G:\ drive too.

It would also be a good precautionary measure to backup the Xbox's eeprom to your PC ASAP too.
