..just my experience on this argument

A little recap ..one of my XBOX burn (years ago) ..and obviously dont have make a backup of KEY (.bin) .. :oops:

..so how re use this old "MAXTOR DiamondMax Plus 9 da 160Gb (6Y160P0 - YAR41BW0)" ??

..connect HDD to PC and use a tool (dont remember which) to check the state

..then found this little nice appy "ZU - ATA Password Unlock Tool for Several Drives"

..dont remeber if boot from USB or LiveCD or floppy ..however boot and start this lil one (zu /P (because the HDD is set how primary))

..reboot PC and check the state again

..an right question is "after using this appy the stuff in the HDD is still there ?"
..i dont have try to recover nothing ..a friend of mine saying that probably whit "FATXplorer" is possible

So you have a Maxtor hard drive that was in an Xbox but the Xbox broke and now you want to unlock it without using an eeprom backup. Is that right?

The tool you linked to seems to only unlock drives and shouldn't erase their contents. I'm just going off of what I'm reading in that and other forums.

yup ..i succeed to unlock the HDD using "ZU - ATA Password Unlock Tool for Several Drives" without eeprom backup

..a friend of mine saying that maybe stuff is still there ..but ..personally dont have test the tool "FATXplorer" for get data back ..

Yeah the data is more than likely still there if the tool just unlocks the drive.

The tool you're talking about is called "Xplorer360". It's a Windows program that read/writes to FATX partitions.

..hoo thanks for the info ;)

maybe i'm just lucky that "ZU - ATA Password Unlock Tool for Several Drives" work with my MAXTOR
..at end re use this old HDD (160gb) is not so usefull ..but i'm just curious to know "how unlock" in case to use with an more bigger HDD
..poor my old XBOX ..damn lightning bolt :evil:
