Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
I downloaded and ran Heimdall's Xbox Engineering Disc to update my modded Xbox. My xbox was chip modded almost ten years ago and I was looking to update the system and xbmc. I followed the instructions I found on a thread in xbox-scene forum. I did everything as I was supposed to including backing up the eeprom and then the basic install of unleash-x. After following the intructions to remove the disc and turn off the console, and then reboot, I get a dark screen and an orange light around the power button. I have gone through the process several times over now and each time yeilds the same result. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just want to use XBMC and transfer the emulators that I have on my laptop to my XBOX so I can play them. Thanks!
Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
After further reseach I am now downloading AID 4.5. Can Anyone tell me if i am on the right track?

Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
No, you are on the wrong track. It sounds as though you have used HeXEn to install a softmod on top of a chipped Xbox, and that will always give you a black screen. AID won't make any difference.
So, let's get back to basics. Which chip, which BIOS? Which HeXEn option(s) did you choose?

Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
In my settings menu the BIOS is unknown, I believe I have the Xecutor chip, and I originally had Slayers evoX installed.
As for the HeXEn options I chose the Krazie ntsc splinter cell option and followed all of the instructions. Including eeprom backup and Unleash X install.

Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
Yes, so you have tried to install a softmod on top of a hacked BIOS, and that will never work.
To find out which chip type you have, use BIOSchecker v5.0. You can get it via Google.
Boot with HeXEn, FTP BIOSChecker to the Xbox (put it in E:\Apps\BIOSChecker\), run it from the HeXEn menu (Option 8. XBox Admin, then File Manager), report back with what it says on the screen.
What was wrong with your original installation that prompted you to start to use HeXEn? In other words, what were you trying to achieve?

Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
Just powered up with the "eject" button and the install completed. I now have the game copy app and XBMC available. Heimdall, you mentioned that I was performing a soft mod on a chip modded xbox. Am I not taking advantage of all of the possibilities of my mod or is my current setup fine the way it is to run install and run emulators and what not?
Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
I had evo x 3935 and saw that in a thread on Xbox-scene that it was best to update, so I did... or tried to. Now I have lost all of the emulators, games and skins that were already installed. I have wanted to learn how to use XBMC and add games to my XBOX for a while, but now have no other option.Heimdall wrote:Yes, so you have tried to install a softmod on top of a hacked BIOS, and that will never work.

Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
Evox 3935 is the dashboard version, and there is no update - that is the latest version. You could upgrade to a different dash, which I suspect is what you mean. You seem to be confusing the mod with the dashboard - you can change the dash without using an installation disc.
Anyway, let's get on and fix this. Are you sure your Xbox is chipped? Can you let us know what BIOSChecker says?

Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
After much tooloing around and some dinner (gotta feed mah brain) I managed to find out that my Bios is "5838.01 Retail", and switched my dashboard to Evo X. But I still don't have access to my emulators and games yet. When I set up the FTP I found out they are still in the "E" drive. Can I move the emulators to the apps folder and be able to access them there?Heimdall wrote:Evox 3935 is the dashboard version, and there is no update - that is the latest version. Also, should I flash my bios? it is an option in evo x dashboard.

Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
How did you find out that was your BIOS? Use BIOSChecker, because it tells you more than just the BIOS version, it tells you the chip type.
If it is 5838.01 Retail then it means that your Xbox isn't chipped, it is softmodded...... which makes the blank screen even stranger, although not unique.
You don't need to start moving your emulators around on your hard drive until you know how your Xbox is modded, and even then you don't need to move them. You certainly don't want to start flashing the BIOS (although I doubt it would work).
So, post back with the BIOSChecker results, then we can work out what to do next.
...and please stop quoting the immediately preceding post, it's completely unnecessary.

Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
I went to the file manager and picked the .xbe option and got a green screen that says
Chip type AMD Am29F080B (Tsop?)
And
BIOS Unknown for both 512k and 256k. There are also lines that say MD5 Hash=...(With a series of numbers and letters following)
Previously I thought I had ran the bios checker and just checked the system settings for the info. This is the first time I've seen this green screen.

Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
I know this thread is old, but I'm having the same issue and can't find the solution here or anywhere else.
I received a second hand xbox which already had xbmc and decided to do a fresh build. I followed the advice found here:http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewt ... 143#p19158
I ended up at the same place as the original poster. Black screen, orange ring after performing softmod. I have performed a bios check and i also get Am29F080B.
Any advice on how to proceed?

Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
If you are TSOP flashed, you cannot have a softmod installed you will crash the Xbox after the X logo screen.Lurch wrote:I know this thread is old, but I'm having the same issue and can't find the solution here or anywhere else.

Note:
You can use a softmod with a chipped system if you're able to disable the chip & the chip bios doesn't point to xboxdash.xbe on the C partition.

Re: Getting Blank Screen after HeXEn install
Never mind. Evo X was appearing on boot. Flashed the bios with hexen and now works. Anyway to clear all the softmod files I've of all over it?
Edit: sorry Rocky, didnt see your reply. You're correct in your post.
