So I bought an xbox bundle online. it worked well at first but now when I try to turn my xbox on it turns itself back off. when it is plugged in for more than 2 minutes the psu starts squealing. A few minutes ago i had it out of the case and so i hooked the psu up to the motherboard and got it to boot once. when i turn it on normally the disc tray opens a few millimeters but the xbox turns off and it closes.
here's a youtube link of the sounds.

Sorry about the background noise, nothing I can do really :/

Re: XBox can't power stock hdd
check for trace corrosion on the bottom of the motherboard also by the sounds of it.
of note a cap can go bad and not look any different from a good one but they often heat up when faulty

Re: XBox can't power stock hdd
I ended up using a decommissioned pc power supply to power the hdd. I'm also going to put my xbox into a pc case and (maybe?) watercooling.
