360 with a dead laser
How can I swap out the now dead 360 DVDrive in an unmodded 360 with a new cheap as shit DVDrive?. Also, what is the best drive to shove in these this thing so it doesn't shit itself as quickly. Thanks boys.

Re: 360 with a dead laser
it is not thast easy as swapzies like the good old xbox.
To make the dvd drive work it has to be the same model and firmware and have the same dvdkey as the console has or it has to be spoofed with a hacked firmware saying it is the correct drive with the correct key with this you risk applying an update and it stuffing out and getting banned.
if the drive is dead then you need to hack the console with the jtag hack or reset glitch hack to get the cpukey to open the nand to get the keyvault with the dvd key inside.
sounds compilicated? it is you need a nand reader a hack method, be aware that if your console is on a 15XXX kernel it is not hackable and this will not work yet.
if the dvd board is ok best and easyest idea is to swap the dvd board on to a drive with a working laser.
if it is dead on some models you can recover the key by desoldering the eprom chip and putting it on another board.
also if you power the console with the dvd drive removed or faulty and try to go on xbox live you will be flagged for a ban and may not be able to use your console with xbox live ever again.

Re: 360 with a dead laser
Hmmm, thanks PJ. No wonder there $60 for 2nd hand working complete machines. BKO said it was an unflashable machine so I might be seeing what the 357 magnum does to it down the farm from about 200 meters, (it's got a nice scope). Flashinfg would be out of the question anyway as my son uses it on Live. Is the HDD data transferable?. I do have a HDD transfer cable. Shame MS woke up and "Sonyized" the 360 after the Xbox. By Sonyized I mean a useless piece of unreliable, unrepairable rubbish that once it can no longer do the job it was intended to do, is only good for landfill and target practice of coarse.

Re: 360 with a dead laser
I have 3 xbox360... 1) original non-modded, which i got one week before the xbox 360 was released on the market (Mountain Dew Sweepstakes, yup, I won!); 2) DVD Drive is flashed to the latest LT 3.0 and XBox Live Safe, though I don't use it on xbox live; 3) Hardmod with Xecuter CoolRunner cause i wnnted to back-up all my games to an external HDD... my son scratched the sh*t out of two games and had to re-purchase them at GameStop, f*cker!
LOL

And I did find it useful and so glad you left the link sir because this right here makes a lot of sense and probably saved the machine from being shot.Dom DXecutioner wrote:Anyway, perhaps you may find the following link useful!

One of the easiest ways to replace your DVD Drive and get around this issue is to swap out the circuit board from your faulty drive into a new drive. However, you need to make sure that you use exactly the same model of DVD Drive as the one you own. They key is kept on a chip on this board, so as far as the xbox is concerned nothing has changed. Whist this is a very simple procedure for the Hitachi and Samsung/Toshiba Drives (you only need to disconnect two ribbon cables and then reattach them) in the BenQ drive you need to de-solder and resolder 9 wires too. Again this isn’t particularly difficult and I am fairly comfortable with my soldering skills but somehow I managed to mess it up!
So again thank you Dom for taking the time to reply. This saved me the price of a replacement machine and the price of a bullet. Between you and I though I was sorta looking forward to the 2nd bit.

yip all except the ones on the latest two kernels beyond 15xxx. the non hdmi xennon console is hackable but it can take hours to get it to glitch.asbo wrote:I may be wrong but I thought all the 360's were reset glitch hackable now?
the corona 4 gig unit is non hackable for the mean time but it is in the works.

Re: 360 with a dead laser
yes and no as some content is locked to the console some is not you can use cloud to save your profile on the interwebs and recover it to a new console.xman wrote:. Is the HDD data transferable?. I do have a HDD transfer cable.
if the drive board is bung it might be a lost cause but definatly the easyst thing is to swap dvd board or swap the eprom onto a working one of same model.
but if your console is on a kernel above 14512 (i think) the firmware must be the latest one that was applied with that update to support xgd3 format disks or you risk a flag also if you swap the eprom over.
