controller mods.

Post by seriouslycgi »

Im wondering what hasnt been done yet.

I figure it would be neat to have a reset button/on off button. I know there is a hack for on button with the unused yellow wire. But you could also do a in game reset by setting up the internels of the controller to press both triggers, black and start. With just one button.

Theres also this.....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlnmfaILCHw one could mod a duke and add extra buttons and go wireless

It would have been awesome if they had coded not only igr but off switch combo too, then we could mod a controller to press those buttons with one button (custom added) then it would be a lot like a 360 controller, the center decal(jewel) on the controller could be used as a button for on off (with yellow cable mod) idk. Might make another thread.
Would it be possible to use a middle button out of a 360 control?
As I have a couple very worn out 360 controls... (too much COD)

Might be an idea up top? Inside one of the memory ports? Use the other one to host the battery or extra wireless stuff.

I was thinking of taking everything out from behing the center decal/jewel and making it clickable. If i get another duke soon im going to have to make it wireless

I remember years ago someone was going to use a "Key Finder" as a way to turn the xbox on remotely... Could probably squeeze one into a control... Theres ones that activiate when you whisle, that might get annoying...

Interesting you guys start talking this. I'll let you in on my thinking. It all started when I was after a cheap IR controller setup but I wanted On / OFF feature as well. I figured I'd gut a MS IR remote and hook those buttons up to the key board in a old wired MS controller. Simple to do, it will fit, the board out of the remote into a controller case that is however, still no ON / OFF. OK, what if I use an IR door bell circuit and that will have the ON / OFF circuitry but now I have no transmitter to activate it unless I put in a separate transmitter in the case solely for the door bell circuitry, ( the new ON / OFF for the Xbox). That is when I thought how about one of these things to replace the whole controller. There cheap, have massive range, come with heaps of different button combos and thumb stick combos but and this is the big plus, they are self learning meaning as long as you have the original remote, you can get any of the buttons to learn the exact same code as the one you are copying and the buttons can have codes from different remotes. A bit like a LogiTec remote for the TV. This way no need to hack into a controller, just use the whole steering wheel IR device.

There are heaps of variations of these steering wheel IR devices but this one here is somewhat ideal I think. Because they are designed to run attached to a car steering wheel working a lot of different devices no matter what brand, they are very strong IR beam wise so unlike the original IR remote, they are not line of site but more a very wide, spread beam of IR. You will need the MS IR receiver but on thinking about it, there is absolutely no reason why not change that part for a complete IR receiver board. I may put some more thought into that part. Anyway, the steering wheel IR device is worthy of a mention I believe.

So could you teach it all the xbox remote buttons and then teach it the signal from a kew finder or doorbell to the power button?

Yes and yes in fact some I have seen can even mimic blue tooth signals or RF signal but most only do IR.
Here is an example of what to expect...
