That's good news - do you recount which make/model? I remember someone's discussions about SSHD on these forums. They must not have tried hard enough!
I suspect there are some good deals to be had on them. Did you notice improvements of any kind? I'd be interested in benchmarking it on FatX and in a Linux formatted partition of some kind.
Either way, transfers should likely cap around 14mb/s over the IDE... Hopefully I'm wrong.

That was me - I did try DAM hard!
I still cant get the Seagate momentus 500Gb SSHD to work with a softmodded xbox's - But I have since taken delivery of one of Lukas's 1Ghz/128Mb machine that is TSOP and it works fine in that.. obviously restricted buy the IDE port but it does have a good zip of speed to it.
