Chimp Hard Drive Upgrade

Post by GeneralBones »

Hey guys. Im trying to upgrade my xbox's harddrive to a western digital wd800ab 80gb ide hard drive and whenever i try to lock it after copying the files, it shows "no drq after issuing multiwrite",
somthing of that sort. it only blinks that so i had to re lock it to until i saw the full message. when ever i do relock it, before the last confirmation, it says the it is not locked. help meh plz

I don't know anything about chimp but the database says the hard drive is lockable :)

I did try The Other options. The last (fourth) one blinks a black console screen with nothing written. The first three are the same.

Anything Else I Should Try?

Well what other methods do you know of that dont include using an old pc with ide ports or ide to sata adapters?

Well there's ConfigMagic and I think both the evox dash and unleashx can also lock hard drives. I have no idea if you can use them with chimp though and since locking/unlocking hard drives without knowing precisely what you are doing is dangerous I really can't recommend any method.

Personally I'd either flash the TSOP or install a modchip, then the hard drive doesn't need to be locked :)

What version xbox do you have? What version Chimp are you using? It would be worth trying a different version of Chimp to what you have. :|

I agree. And if I was working with a V1.6 I would (indeed do) use XBOXHDM which definitively does support locking and unlocking of drives.

The version is 1.1. I want to flash the tsop but i dont know how to determine if i have a sharp tsop or reg. if a had a "sharp tsop" then i would need to solder 2 extra points :

(go to version 1.0/1.1)

i kinda soldered them 2 points:
i used a blow torch on some solder, let some drop, cut off some the the droped solder into little plates, used 2 of them for ech point (excluding the sharp tsop soldering b/c i have an st tsop) and used a small screw driver to push it in a little after putting a little bit of tape on them.

not writable :(

no soldering gun/iron

question: instead of adding solder, shud i just heat up the 2 points for each solder point and connect them (try to)?

No. You really should stick with a softmod til you get the proper equipment... Don't risk it

Get yourself a soldering iron, incredibly useful things to have. I recommend circuitspecialists, fairly cheap and decent equipment.
