Newbie questions, sorry

Post by BadAnimal »

I'm trying to read up but it seems the more I read the more confused I am getting. :-)

I have an opportunity to buy an old XBOX for $20.00.

I've never used XBMC in any manner.

I'd like to be able to stream internet stuff to my TV (YouTube, etc.).

Is there a way to mod the Xbox without having to buy an Action Replay?

I'm trying to keep things as cheap as possible. Seems like I have read that I can find the game files online without having to buy Splinter Cell? What is the absolute cheapest way to mod a XBox?

Also, I have a HDTV, can I hook up the XBox to it?

Thank you very much. And I apologize if these questions have been asked before and I just couldn't find them.

Youve got 3 options to avoid the Action Replay adapter

1)Make your own by splicing a USB to a xbox controller breakaway cable (works for mem card or USB thumb drive)
2)Wire a USB port into the XBOX via a controller port

Both are just simple splicing, match the colours, wrap individualy with electrical tape, and tape off the yellow wire its not used.

3)Hotswap which requires a PC with IDE ports, XBOXHDM or AutoBuilder, or Xplorer360(I dont reccomend using it for building/modding an HDD) and forcing an e12 on the XBOX to make it unlock the HDD

Also see here www.xbox-hq.com for tuts on making adapters, wiring in USB and to get the files need to mod your XBOX. For HD as long as you have the XBOX HD kit you can hook it to a HDTV. I use the Madcatz HD cable and a Toshiba 1080p LCD TV

If you haven't got a memcard and Splinter Cell/007/Mech Assault, the easiest way will be to hotswap HDD and use Xplorer360 to change files on C partition. Guy called Gangst3r created nice tutorial in Polish language, but there are many screens. If you don't understand, I can translate it.

It takes only a few minutes. After this, I recommend to use HEXEN and install MSDash + Krayzie Ndure 1.1.1.
