Cloned HD to bigger one - partitions still small?

Post by asktoby »

I used Chimp to clone my factory hard disk to an 80GB one.
It went very well, I have XBMC running on it now.
However, the partitions are still the original small sizes:
C: 497.2 MB
E 2.19GB
F ??
Q 2.19GB (i.e. same as E)

I read that you could go to F drive and create a simple text file, and the size would update, but when I try to use the file manager to go to F drive I get "Path not found or invalid".

How can I get the Xbox to see the whole hard disk?

See the screenshots in XBMC below:

You can use XBPartitioner 1.3, more commonly used for this reason.

That is true, but at the same time it is very easy to accidentally exit if you don't belong meddling with it!

For OP, coming from a stock drive it isn't a concern.

Plus, saving changes will only lose data upon the alteration and then saving of a partition's size/

So, for example C and E won't be "F'd" with. They cannot be altered. One good reason to keep your dash/secondary dash on one of these partitions.

But a nod on pointing that out because it does indeed clear everything without much effort. I've done it before, thankfully it was on purpose. If cluster size isn't correct for the partition's size, for my case, I simply changed sizes of the partitions F and G, then saved. Then reset them back to the original configuration and saved.

Instead of "???" the cluster size reads "64". Yah, and no more verification with a small file needed.

Just seen NOTTHESAME said the same.

Easy way:

Use UnleashX to do it, highlight the F partition in the file browser & press start & then select the format option.

Done, since you don't need more than 16kb clusters UnleashX will do the job fine.

Or if you want to use XBPartitioner.

load XBPartition v1.3, when it loads press (B), press Start & then (Y) - when done restart the Xbox.
(The above will distribute the extra space to the extra partition & then format the partition.)

If the above doesn't work, do the same but instead of (B) press (A) until you see that partition 6 has what's left of the space, that will be about 60 odd GB, press start again & then (Y) to format that partition.

You can't really go wrong with XBPartitioner, as you can only manually change the stock partitions, so as long as your not hammering the triggers & just using the (A) (B) buttons you can't go wrong.
