Post by BuZz »

see:

I already pledged @ £176 for the full version kit. Very easy to part with money on the interwebs! :)

To tell the truth, I think these a as small as practical when it comes to video games that aren't going to move all over the place while you try to play them..

Nice spot Buzz, I was in John Lewis the other day and spotted one of these. It's a shame it's only ipad and not android but might be useful for any apple fans out there (£63.15)

Oh man, you're right it does support android via bluetooth. Why didn't I splash a bit more cash on my tablet and go for a bluetooth one?! To be honest I already have a full size arcade cab so it would only be more of a gimmick to me, it's probably done me a favour and saved me some beer money :D

@whufclee
But whufclee can your full sized cabinet ride with you in a car to a friends house or be played while you do laps on those crazy round-abouts you got over there? ;)

Very cool, I'll need to keep an eye on this development

Cheers!

BuZz, having trouble finding a suitable PS as we talked about on Team Speak however I do like this one as well and it's UK based at a reasonable price..

2amp max@ 5 AND 12vDC. Should be adequate for the RPi and the screen I think.

Finally got around to sorting this out. Went with your solution, plus one of these - https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10031

Works a treat so far.

Cool, the caged power supply or the inline one?.
How does the RPi handle the games? A pic of the unit would be nice. :D

With OpenELEC running on my first B, I'm looking for a new project for my 2nd B, since the kids have got bored of Scratch.

1. Looking at the kickstarter project it claims there are still cabs available, but the Picade forum* has people asking where they can get them, so something's not matching. I'm often suspicious of internet sites offering to take my money, thus assuming they are still available which is the best outlet?

2. Help me get started:
- Can you point me at the best** distro for running an emulator set up?
- Any pointers for people running a naked (un-picaded) set-up?

* hmmm, somewhat of a forum family resemblence there, methinks.
** your judgement of "best" is fine.

I would recommend RetroPie but then my opinion is somewhat biased since I am contributing to that project. (It can be run/installed on raspbian, or a ready made image is available with it pre-installed). Other systems include PiPlay and Ultraslim.

No idea about availability of the picade - might be worth emailing them directly. I had assumed they would be retailing the kits by now - but I've not heard anything.. Maybe they have given up ?

Slight change of subject...

We got our youngest a Piper kit: http://playpiper.com/
It's also a kickstarter project - and definitely cottage industry product. But hugely engaging all the same. Recommended.

Since I've got a bit of time, I'll get the Retropie package installed on my Raspbian SD card.
