Hello. I have never done any type of modification on my XBOX myself. But, a long time ago it was sent in to be hardmodded and it still is.
But now I want to upgrade its storage a bit, though I need help.
As mentioned. My XBOX is Hardmodded. ( Chipped )
I have looked up the Adapter and HDD as well as checked the compatibility.
I have a few questions as well.
Will the chip take care of the hard work as in formating the drive and set the paths up.
Does the OS of the XBOX exist on the Chip or on the Old harddrive.
I'd be glad to get some step by step instructions for a complete setup, from plugging in the new 1TB HDD to the xbox. To the part where I can use the interface as well as FTP Clients.

Re: Need assistance with HDD change ( Original XBOX )
Hi there,
The modchip does not take care of formatting and partition creation. Not in the case of a 1TB hard drive for sure (there are advanced modchips with embbeded "OS" that could format drives but that was way before 1TB were available).
To fully prepare a HDD, you must have a working DVD drive in your console. You must download one of the few utility discs made for Xbox like HeXen Engineering disc, Auto-Installer Deluxe or Slayer's. These disc contain the tool to format your 1TB HDD correctly called XBPartitionner (not sure if Slayer's disc have it by default). After that, the same disc will give you the possibility to install dashboards and apps but also FTP access to transfer your stuff on your new HDD.
Just make sure to set up your launching dashboard at the right location on your HDD to match the boot path of the BIOS on your modchip. Common locations are E:\evoxdash.xbe and C:\evoxdash.xbe. If your Xbox will not boot to the dash when there's no disc in your drive, it means the BIOS couldn't find a xbe to launch. You can always reflash your modchip with a new BIOS using HeXen disc. Be careful when doing this, it "brick" your chip if the process is not 100% completed.
For the rest, I suggest you check tutorials on installing new HDD and flashing a modchip. There are numerous tutorials scattered across the web. Google for them.

Smeagori, you asked me the very same questions in a PM a couple of days ago. And you got the very same answers as Chewy has given now you.

Well, You did not write as detailed as he did. That is why I asked in this section instead.spicemuseum wrote:Smeagori, you asked me the very same questions in a PM a couple of days ago. And you got the very same answers as Chewy has given now you.

Thank you, Very much! This was Exactly what I wanted to know. Well explained and explained in detail. I'll be sure to get my hands on a utility disc,psyko_chewbacca wrote:Hi there,

One more question though. Which utility is recommended the most?

HeXen, easier for flashing chips and uses DHCP by default. Auto-Installer sets up a static connection by default which might not fit the parameters of your home network. Annoying if you need FTP access.Smeagori wrote: Thank you, Very much! This was Exactly what I wanted to know. Well explained and explained in detail. I'll be sure to get my hands on a utility disc,

Auto-Installer is also good as you can customize the iso before burning it on a DVD-R(add DHCP, emulators, apps, BIOSes...). It's just more complicated, longer to download and burn to DVD-R if you just want to format your HDD and have FTP access.
A note on those disc,. While most dashboards and speciality apps included are at their last released version, you probably want to avoid installing emulators and XBMC builds included on those disc as they are likely not the latest versions available.

Thereby disproving your assertion that "...personal answers has always worked the best for me." Lesson learnedSmeagori wrote:Well, You did not write as detailed as he did. Further note: HeXEn does more than just place the application as part of its XBMC install - it places other files as part if its batch which help with preparation when you later want to switch that as the default dashboard.psyko_chewbacca wrote:A note on those disc,. For that reason I let HeXEn do its thing, then subsequently overwrite its XBMC installation with the latest, from Mrs Pi
