Planning Mini Xbox build: Ctrl Port to USB question

Hey guys,

I have recently gotten into planning an extemely late to the party Mini Xbox. I am going to convert the controller ports to USB but I was wondering something - can you convert the ports to USB and retain Xbox Controller functionality? Reason being, USB only has 4 pinouts while the Xbox ports have a proprietary 5th connection (the yellow cable) for carrying xbox controller signals. I have tried searching around but can't find a clear answer.

The yellow wire is used for light guns I know that much. It isn't required for a normal controller

Controllers will work just fine, you'll just need to cut and splice the controllers ends and install USB ends on them. FXmech is correct the yellow wire is for the light guns and will not effect the controllers if not hooked up.
