XBMC box to buy, guidance required

Post by robanfield »

Hi To All,
New to this and would like some help from all you experts. I would like to buy a xbmc box but have found it a bit baffling. I am hoping you guys can steer me in the right direction. I have seen all sorts of boxes promising everything but I am wary cos I dont have the knowledge. I have a budget of £60 to £100 could anybody give me some advice as to the best one to buy.
Thanks in advance to anybody who has the time to help me.
Cheers, Rob

@robanfield

Rob, you can ask away as much as you want - even though the site you probably want is xbmc.org - just don't spam by creating multiple threads for the same thing.
Apologies I am new at this and only want some help as to buying a box.
Can you tell me how to go about it as I am ignorant on this. Can you make a similar box for me. I dont want a box for games, would like football, films docs etc remote control and usbs to connect external hard drive etc. I have looked at the boxes from china and am wary. I suppose most of all I would like good quality pictures without freezing.
I just thought by joining a site like this I might get some advice.
I apologise once again and I did not mean to do anything wrong or upset anybody.
I suppose I will just have to take my chances and buy something, I just did not want to buy something too expensive for me which the one I was asking advice about is!

Best regards,
Rob.

Dan, I will apologise again, I moved the post because I was hoping for more help as nothing seemed forthcoming. I had to google what spamming meant as I am a complete novice at this. I have never seen an xbmc box in the flesh, I only read about them on the internet recently and thought they sounded good, I never realised what a minefield it is!
I will not ask for any more help, or advice, I will try and find another website who might be able to help me.
Once again to all your members and staff I am sorry for any bother I caused
Regards, Rob

Rob, what I'm saying is just stick to this single thread man until you get an answer :-) that's all. Giving you that warning maybe was a bit harsh considering you're not familiar with all this, but maybe all that will be useful later, once you create a thread stick to it, don't create new ones for attention cause you can get kicked out from places.

This site is dedicated to XBMC on the original Xbox when the project started 10 years ago, now called XBMC4Xbox - this is a much smaller community than XBMC.org so there are not a lot of people to answer right away.

But you occasionally get people here posting about XBMC and related stuff, like the Android box that runs XBMC from TotalXBMC guys and they have a special offer for UK right now - someone posted earlier in a reply and you probably missed, here it is again: http://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3251

Marketplace is what you want - now, you want a little box for 60-100 GBP to put it next to your TV and run XBMC on it right? That'll have to be Android or Raspberry Pi I'd say, some may say the old Xbox but I don't think that'll be the right fit for you. Plenty of little boxes that run XBMC, browse through this as well to get an idea: http://liliputing.com/category/reviews

Thanks Dan got it!
Yes I just want a box for football, films, docs etc. I wanted something that would,nt keep freezing etc and God there are so many out there!
I will now slow down and try and gain a bit of knowledge before buying, but jeez Its complicated, I will obviously hope for someone to send me down the right road as there are so many phonies that just want your money, and help and guarantees disappear once you,ve paid them.
Thanks again for your advice,
Regards,
Rob

Don't be silly, this is a friendly place, we're all on here because we want to help.

***Edit***
From the sound of it, you don't want an xbox. Depending on how tech savvy you are, I recommend you get yourself a Raspberry Pi and put Openelec on an SD card or USB stick and be done with it (Google is your friend).

***Edit 2 ***
Just seen that Dan is making the same ecommendation.

BTW, the offer I made you in your PM inbox a few days ago (see link above) is still open to you.
