Just wondering if anyone would be able to help me with reflashing two x2duo chips that were flashed with the wrong bios.
I have an Aladdin xt live programmer to work with. Just wondering what else I would need and which software I would need.
Thanks in advance.

I have done DuoX chips before after the bios become corrupted but I had spare modchips to still boot the machine with. That process was pretty easy. Boot the machine with a GOOD chip and hotswap over the faulty one and use EvoXDash to re-flash it.

I was hoping to just be able to use the programmer as I have a few other chips I'm looking at fixing

Do you not have one working modchip?. You only need one so the machine will boot and then you can hotswap and re-flash all the other faulty modchips one after the other on that machine once it has booted. Unless you have a Aladdin modchip i can't image the Aladdin programmer would be any good at all but as I have never had an Aladdin programmer myself, I really don't now. This is the process I have always used for re-flashing chips myself. Maybe you can borrow a working chip from someone just to kick you off. Once you have one good one you can continue yourself. Where are you located?.disease wrote:I was hoping to just be able to use the programmer as I have a few other chips I'm looking at fixing

The best way to do this is to initially tie d0 to ground with a wire soldered directly on the motherboard. This will force the Xbox to exclusively "talk" to the LPC bus. You're then free to swap chips on the LPC bus as much as you want as there is no d0 wire attached to them.fxmech wrote:When hot swapping a chip what is supposed to happen with d0? Maybe a dumb question but I always wondered.
If you don't want to tie d0 to GND on the motherboard, you can always use any adhesive or clip to hold the unsoldered d0 wire to the d0 pad of the modchip.
Concerning softwares for the Aladdin Live programmer, I have 2.
The first is the official one from Aladdin-chip (pulled from Archives.org). It seems more polished and better presented but I doubt it will work with flash chips other than what was used on Aladdin modchip serie (SST49LF020/A). Of course, your chips being Duox2, they will not give out the same ID as the Aladdins but it's worth trying. Maybe this software will accept them as "unsupported device" but still flash to them.
Here's the first software: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/709 ... Dlive2.rar
The second software seems third party but will likely be compatible with Duox2. It looks more like a generic software to interface multiple "brands" of LPC programmers. You'll need to install UserPort (supplied in package) and will likely work only on Windows XP and lower(I wouldn't try on a virtual machine).
Second software download : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/709 ... rammer.zip
In any case, make sure to program 512KB BIOS files to at least 1 bank. Programming through the parallel port takes a long time. Be patient, it`ll likely take more than 2-3 minutes as suggested in the manuals since you have double the flash capacity of a Aladdin modchip.
EDIT: You *MUST* solder a wire between the BT solder pad and 3.3V for the chip to be picked up by software.
EDIT2: Found 2 other programs. iXia sounds promising(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7092024/iXia.rar). x2cable not so much but here it is anyway(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7092024/x2cable.zip). You can always check on Xbins, in the PC section for softwares I did not find.
