Script Error on all plugins and scripts

Post by Aquapanther »

Hi guys.
I downloaded the latest stable version tonight.
I then installed a few scripts and plugins...Navi-X, 4OD, SportsDevil, etc.

When I try to load them up they are giving me script errors.

Any Ides what I can do to stop it?

Cheers.

1) 98 % from addons , script , plugins from main xbmc (eden) works not out of the box!
2) have you make the addon settings?
3) on xbmc4xbox we have no installer that install the addon with the dependecies (scriptmodule)!
4) Install my Jan's English XBMC4XBOX and have fun!

Did you ftp using a mac by any chance?

It sounds as though the script modules weren't copied over (I've heard the dot preceeding "script modules" can cause problems when ftp'ing from Mac). If it's not that are you sure the xbox is connected to the internet ok? You'll know if it is as there will be scrolling text at the bottom of the homepage (RSS Feed), well at least it will if it's enabled in appearance settings!

Well I was about to reply and post an error log.....however as my XBox has just exploded that will not be happening! :(
A loud pop, lots of smoke, and me rushing out the back door with the feckin' thing!

Worth me trying to pick up another one or would something like Apple TV be better?

Oooh what happened there? Dodgy power unit by the sounds of it.

Is it worth replacing? Probably if you can pick one up for next to nothing off ebay.

However saying that you might want to consider "what do I want it to do?"... For what they cost I'd say yeah just go ahead and replace it, what's it going to cost - probably no more than £20. For what it's worth here's my thoughts on the XBMC platforms available:

PC (Win7)
Pro's: Brilliant in every aspect, always my number 1 media center. Gaming, HD, Web Browsing, Use TV As A PC, Easily Upgrade Hardware etc.
Cons: It's a big unit if you want to use it for gaming, something like an Acer Revo is very small though but you do pay the extra for it and it's no good for serious gamers. You can get some very cheap second hand PC units and stick a HD gfx card in which will be excellent media centers but they will undoubtedly be a bit on the big side.

Raspberry Pi
Still new on the scene but so far it's very encouraging. VERY small and it has onboard HDMI, auto updating features, cheap... I like it. Like I say it's the new kid on the block so who knows just how it will perform in the long run but so far it's good enough to have replaced my xbox in my bedroom (for now!).

Android Box/PIVOS
Looks great, I haven't played around with one yet but I've heard very good things. Think of an Android Tablet but in the form of a set top box (similar in size to ATV). Most apps are free, has it's own browser, Xbox360 controllers work with android and there are many emulators. For me this is where it's at but how long will it be until we have a truly stable tested XBMC working on Android? It's the future but can you wait for all the bug fixes?!

Xbox
Tried and tested, very robust (apart from your one!) and easy to use. Great for gaming and the only real downside is the size, no official XBMC support (we only have the one XBMC4Xbox dev) and not ideal for HD content. A big plus is the price and it's instantly on or off at the press of a button - very user friendly.

ATV
I'm not really qualified to give any comments on this as I still haven't used one. Honestly with the other options available I don't see why you'd go for ATV as it's nowhere near as good as having a PC but performance wise it's better than an xbox. From what I've heard the Raspberry Pi is running better than ATV (as I don't have ATV I can't compare myself) and it's cheaper and smaller. Also you can do a whole lot more with an Android Box than ATV - but it is still very early days for XBMC Android.

Ipad
Bah, more apple crap - get an Android tablet

These are just my thought on the matter but hopefully they might be of some help to you!

Thanks for the big post mate.

I'm not bothered about gaming...I've got a 360 I can use for that.
I'm looking for something I can stream movies, sports etc thru.

TBH I don't have much experience with this thing and was quite enjoying mucking about with it.

Do you get XBMC for PC?
I've got an old laptop running XP I could hook up to the TV.

Alternatively it sounds like Android might be the way to go once it has been fully tested.

Pi sounds good, but possibly a bit advanced for me until there are proper guides there that I can follow.

Thanks again for your advice.

The Pi is actually the easiest one of them all to setup - don't let the fact that it's just a circuit board put you off. If you get one order a case at the same time and then all you need to do is visit http://www.raspbmc.com/ and it will tell you about any known bugs or whatever. There is also a download link on there which is a small program for windows and literally all you do is put an SD card in your PC and run the program - it automatically installs everything for you and then stick the SD card in the Pi, you're totally set up! All you need now is a remote (a cheap one can be found on ebay for around £3) or a wireless keyboard.

With regards to the PC, yes it's been available on the PC since year dot... well slight exaggeration - it was developed on Xbox and then ported to PC a couple of years later. You'll have to make sure your laptop is up to the job - if it's very old then the gfx card may be incompatible but it would have to be VERY old for that. Also does your laptop have HDMI out? If you're going to watch it via the TV then really you need HDMI for sound and quality - if you use a VGA cable it's a really poor picture. Certainly worth installing it on your laptop as it's not massive in size and you can see just how much better it can be with the proper hardware resources.
