Help.... How To Mod Original Xbox With Broke Dvd Drive

hello, I have successfully modded about a dozen original Xbox's

In the past I always used 007 hack install mod back up eprom then take that info and make a xboxhdmaker disc which I would just use to lock or unlock because I would clone my 320gb to another 320gb so only thing I needed xboxhdmaker for was locking and unlocking

I got bored and decided I would learn more about hot swapping and see if I could mod and set up a original xbox with a broke dvd player

Well it has not been going as smooth as I thought,

I thought if I hot swapped to my pc and then used xboxhdmaker to copy a set up that has worked for me before many times but only on original Xbox's that were already modded, well when I tried putting that build on unmodded original hard drive it just makes the original xbox reboot over and over, no error screen just rebooting non stop

this hard drive is still locked and I can still unlock it by hot swapping, I thought maybe I could just put a original unmodded original xbox image on the hard drive and maybe get the xbox to at least work again

I have tried many time to tell xboxhdmaker put put virgin state c drive on it and tried other hdmaker options

I am getting deserate and I might start trying hotswapping to another xbox and trying slayer discs on it or something I don't know

by the way the xbox dvd drive does work on this xbox I just wanted to buy more original Xbox's and not have to worry about if the dvd drive on them is broke, but I wish I had never started messing with it now seems to much of a pain in the ass just to try to save a few bucks

I hotswapped from xbox I am trying to set up to a different xbox that was already modded and used a slayer disc, I used a option on slayer disc that said install soft mod retail, now the xbox that was giving me trouble is booting to retail dash board, I don't know if I should hot swap again and try to use slayer disc to change dash that it boots to, maybe I will try a hexin disc or aid, been so long I don't even remember the names of the discs but I got them laying around, I could do the 007 hack and be done but I started this to try and find out how to set up a unmodded xbox without using a dvd hack

I hot swapped and looked at options in auto installer deluxe 4.53 lite, then I looked at options in hexen, I think it was hexen I tried a option for krazie's mod install it did a install and then said back up epprom, I did not want to do that part because I was thinking that might be what is causing a problem since I don't want the epprom from xbox I am running these tools on, i did back up epprom and then i tried it on xbox i want to set up and it did not work i just got a black screen maybe if i had not did the eprom back up then it would of worked, maybe the problem is i need to disable showdown c since the xbox i want to set up is not modded, i do not know everything about how this stuff works .... any help ?

my back is hurting from hotswapping and messing with this all day, i think i will just do the 007 hack and stop trying to do mods without dvd drive game hacks for now

i did see the 720p hd options on that i forgot were there, i think i will focus on 720p and maybe charge more instead of trying to save more, discless modding sucks ass

i have read around the internet on many different places and i do not read anything about original xbox dvd drives being married so this discless modding is pointless when i can easily attach a dvd drive from another xbox if only just to soft mod the console, if i buy a original xbox with a broke dvd drive

Unless you're trying to preserve the factory seal in a 1.6 there's no good reason not to throw a working drive in there to grab the eeprom. Then just build the HDD with xboxhdm and lock it using the eeprom.

Right off the bat, backing up the EEPROM is mandatory with every softmod.

Secondly that is not what has arsed up your softmod.

Thirdly the shadowc in my opinion should be mandatory (it's not) it stops people touching stuff they shouldn't be.

If you have a working dvd drive, stick it in the xbox you want to mod, mod it & give the user your selling it to a disc with a copy of there EEPROM on it & they'll them to keep it safe.

Or alternatively;

Nul the EEPROM HDD key on all Xbox's you mod & then you can just swap HDDs in & out of any Xbox. (That has a nulled HDD key) it also means you no longer are reliant on the EEPROM since the key is just 32 0's

I had been avoiding buying original Xbox's with broke dvd drives for a long time and never thought that maybe the fix could be as easy as putting a working dvd drive inside it temporarily, if I had known it was that easy than I would of never tried not using a game disc hack, yesterday was the first time I completed the mod without hdmaker tho, by hot swapping and using chimp I was able to clone with on different xbox then lock down the hard drive on other xbox with chimp

The 720p, I think I got it to work in xbmc streaming a 720p movie, I see options for 1080i in Microsoft dash, and in xbmc appearance options I have not tried the 1080i, does that work also

and the 720p or 1080i is only for xbmc video correct, I mean it is not going to make anything else like a game look better is it ?

seems both the broke dvd drive soft modding thing and the 720p was always more simple than I ever expected it to be, with the 720p I almost want to set xbmc as the default dash it boots to for my customers but I wont do it because I think customers might want to mess with xbmc maybe making it unstable so I just leave it booting to evox as default
